I am sooooo stressed... Sorry but I must vent... I went to my local Asda to buy some stamps before Mondays price hike. I asked for 5 booklets of 12 1st class and was charged £7.20 per book, I queried the price and asked why it had already gone up! The woman simply replied 'the price went up yesterday', I explained that I was sure it wasn't supposed to rise until tomorrow, she said 'well I will see if you can get a refund'.
I was refunded, went home (tail between legs) and checked the web as I thought I must have been going mad!
I phoned asda back, when I returned home, to query why it had gone up. The manager explained that there was a 'communication error' and said I could travel back to the shop and pay the correct price for them.
I drive back and the cashier decides to charge me £5.72 per book, I asked if this was correct, as it amounted to 47.6p per stamp! I explained that it could not be correct and £5.52 seemed more accurate... She acted like I was such an inconvineance (for might I add getting the price right) and as I just felt so uncomfortable I wanted to get out of there ASAP. Anyway, the worst is still to come.... I return home to find she has given me 3 packets of stamps not the 5 I paid for :o( I am kicking myself for not checking before I left!!!!
I phoned them back to be told by the manager that her cashier was 'adamant' she gave me 5 booklets!!!!! I said to her 'well I am adamant I only have 3'... I am so angry with the whole situation (I never normally shop in asda thank goodness, and I won't again, I have had such terrible service today) I explained to the manager that I would not call and lie about not being given the extra two booklets if I indeed had them.
Apparently I will be contacted tomorrow about it!!!!
Urrrgggghhhhh I have a headache with all the stress of it! Bloody wish I hadn't bothered (I only got them for grandad's Christmas cards) so much for trying to do a good deed (sorry prob not the right place for this, but if other people purchased stamps from asda today you may need to check you were charged correctly)

    .................

Presuming GRANDAD is a pensioner ....

... 36 stamps at the CURRENT PRICE (2nd 36p/1st 46p) will be available to purchase in Post Offices from November 6th until the last December posting dates for Christmas 2012

And why wouldn't you send them 2nd class anyway ?

Summary of whats still available online:
Royalmail shows sheets but actually OOS so fails if try, do have rolls but limited to 1, books limited to 10, delivery free unless book(s) then add 1.45 (limits per customer?)
Ocado now show all sizes of stamps OOS.
Viking all show as Unavailable call.
Tesco show stock but WARNING they charge you the price on day of delivery which will be the hiked price.
Sainsbury allows ordering all sizes of books, free delivery over £100, not sure if nectar or any vouchers i.e 15 off 75 work with stamps? Warning I don't think they check stock until day of delivery so you might not actually get any?
    Any others?

initially I had a lot of trouble ordering from royal mail

I would get to the final checkout page but could not get my order to go thru
    - my order was a mixture of rolls, books & sheets

Eventually I tried just ordering 3 rolls of 2nd class & for some reason that went thru OK

Fingers crossed that they deliver all 3 rolls & not just 1 roll ( it is possible to add more than one roll to basket & checkout - you adjust the quantity before adding to basket)

2nd class are going up by the most (38% ?) so they are the best value
  • Does anyone know what will be the most economical, when sending large letters first class in the future: using a normal (pre-price-increase) first class stamp , and then making up the extra by buying 1p/2p/20p stamps; or using just one (pre-price-increase)first class large letter stamps?

Anyone still dithering, I've just remembered to order stamps. Have bought online from Royal Mail: http://shop.royalmail.com/stamps/stamp-sheets/icat/cat156/

I've plumped for 100 first class plus 100 5p stamps (to make up the value for first/second large letter, which will be an extra 30p/9p, as I don't use large letter very often).

I've bought from Royal Mail online before but I suspect they may not be as prompt with delivery this time! Less than 2 hours before the new prices come into effect...

    Pre-price increase large letter - by 1 pence i.e. 75p minus 46p equals 29p versus 90p minus 60p equals 30p. Unless I've misunderstood. ;)

just a quick question and I feel a bit silly asking it!

If something costs £1 (post price increase) to send, can you stick on 2 second class stamps?

    Thanks in advance.
