According to the RM site the compensation level will stay at £46.
More worrying is the removal of the standard parcel compensation - looks like they no longer want to handle parcels...Royal Mail is changing its arrangements for compensation for loss and damage of untracked stamp, meter and account universal services. Currently, the maximum compensation available is linked to the price of a stamp (100 x the price of a First Class stamp). From 30 April, the maximum compensation available will remain at £46 where evidence of posting and value can be provided.
From 30 April, Royal Mail will align compensation arrangements for all untracked services. Customers will no longer be able to buy enhanced compensation for Standard Parcels (an untracked parcels service). Compensation arrangements available for Standard Parcels will remain at a maximum of £46 where evidence of posting and value can be provided.0 -

e.g.
Sending a 2kg standard parcel (£4.41 atm) could be paid for with 10x1st, or 13x2nd?
If so, surely it's better to stock up on the stamps that have the highest % increase? (2nd->38%)
Also, if parcels are increasing by less than 38% - then paying with 2nd class stamps will actually make it cheaper!
Taking my 2kg standard parcel example; it's rising from £4.41 (13x36p 2nd's) to £5.30 (11x50p 2nd's).
When paying in stamps, how do they give change? low denomination stamps, or cash?life is like a loo roll. the nearer the end you get, the faster it goes.0 -
thats not how your post was worded though
was it?
I have said it many times
do people nit think that the continued cuts in RM wont have an effect?
over 60,000 staff in letters are gone over the last few years
Wasn't my post, Custardy, just giving my experience. LYNICED posted the original point.0 -

Thanks
So in future they're playing by different rules then, now that's not fair.

Just pay under the value in stamps and the difference in cash e.g. after 30 April £4.41 postage = 7x 1st class stamps + 21p. No way would I put 8 stamps on it! :rotfl:7 Feb 2012: 10st7lbs14 Feb: 10st4.5lbs

Ah ok, so you do actually use the stamps - not just hand them over as payment.
That seems extremely wasteful on Royal Mail's part, and I can imagine it must end up being quite ridiculous for heavy* Special Delivery parcels; do they really expect me to stick SEVENTY 2nd class stamps (£34.62) onto a 10kg parcel?!?!?!
I can just imagine the staff struggling to count them now! and the queues.... dear lord, the queues!
*Obviously anyone using Special Delivery for a 10kg parcel has more money than sense; it was meant as an example to illustrative RM's daft system.0 -
Looking at their new price listings for parcels I'm struggling to see any price bands where RM are offering a better price than the couriers.
Unless the price rises encourage budget couriers to raise their profit margins, I suspect Royal Mail are going to simply price themselves out of the parcel delivery market.0 -

We have until Apr 30th to buy 1st and 2nd class stamps at the current price. Is that right?0
