    It's not free at all.

Instead of you paying your cash to settle your bill they are taking the "discount" you have earned by paying cash (via the risky card) at their nominated shops to settle the bill.

    That's the busy fool scenario!

What if there is no sainsburys within 20 miles for a customer ?

The UW has identified this as a major problem they have when trying to suggest to gullibles that although they may think the uw prices are expensive, the benefits of the risky card will make it ok.

The reps are now told not to even mention having to shop at Sainsburys, but to ask "how much do you spend on food and fuel"? Then say to their friend "just carry on with your normal shopping and you can get 5% off your bills". (Note they haven't let on to their friend they need to actually use Sainsburys!)

Then they put their training on the net for all to hear (they must be so proud of their ethics):

    (This one is dated 18/10/09)

(You'll also hear them being taught to take a print out of the scandalous "savings calculator" from their website to a meeting with a gullible friend to give them "bags of credibility" with their mates!)

I don't quite understand the 'its not free' argument that is used on here often! I have had free (as in I have used a UW service and paid NOTHING, ZERO, 0) phone rental and calls for the past few months and received cashback too! I can't believe how desperate this argument has become! The figure I look at is the one on the bottom of my bill and that has been a big fat 0 for the past few months, call it what you want, but I call it free!!

For the benefit of those new readers who are not inclined to go back into the history of this thread, janninew has adopted a very sensible course of action.

She ditched her very expensive UW gas and electricity:T and retained UW for her phone and kept her cashback card.

As has been stated many times, there is absolutely no point in spending several hundred pounds more for your gas and electricity with UW in order to get their card. You then need to spend several thousand pounds on that card in selected shops just to recoup the extra you spent on gas and electricity.

For instance taking the average UK customer(figures in posts above). They would spend over £300pa extra on gas and electricity with UW than the cheapest tariff. To recoup that extra you would need to spend over £6,000pa in shops that accept the UW card. - be aware also that you buy the card and pay to top it up each time, as well as lose interest on the money.

There is also the option that you get cheap gas and electricity and use another cashback card. However as operastar/1carminestocky/carespress(delete as required;)) would love to debate, those cards might not be as convenient to use as the UW card.

The most important issue is surely that gas and electricity from UW will cost on average several hundred pounds a year than the cheapest tariffs.

Note that operastar/1carminestocky/carespress(delete as required;)) is back to his usual tactics of diverting the discussion away fro UW high gas and electricity prices and on to the relative merits of cashcards.

    operastar/1carminestocky/carespress(delete as required;)),

    Why keep up the pretence?

I have no intention of diverting the discussion away from UW prices. This is a statement of fact, which you clearly cannot dispute.

For the benefit of new readers, and existing UW customers, be advised that:

UW gas and electricity is just about the most expensive in UK and £hundreds more than the cheapest tariff - generally around 30%.

That fact can be confirmed by checking the tariffs in any comparison website or by comparing the tariffs yourself. Use the WHICH comparison website if you wish.

There is no need to listen to either side of the argument on this thread, just confirm the facts with any independent source.

As an example the average UK customer uses 20,500kWh gas and 3,300kWh electricity. In my area(Midlands) that will cost £894 with the cheapest supplier, the cheapest UW tariff is £1,199. That is £305 and 34% more expensive if you are silly enough to have UW as your gas and electricity supplier.

Well after just over 1 year I have my dispute settled with UW. The Energy Ombudsman stated that there were significant failings in how they had calculated my bill which were made worse due to the fictitious readings UW were using (still do not know where they got the readings from). The Energy Ombudsman have instructed UW to send me a revised bill rather than try to amend the continuous errors they had made and also to offer £50.00 as a goodwill gesture. UW have also waived the standing charges and membership fee as well.

Taking all of this into account my final bill (which is correct as I have checked it) which covers just under 3 months is over double what my energy bill is with SWALEC for 6 months.

UW are significantly much dearer and although I have asked them to advise why they are so expensive yet claim to be the cheapest (or one of the cheapest) they have still not responded.

Continual posting of identical information to this thread on several posts, at a rate liable to cause annoyance =

    SPAM.

Only annoying if the message it contains is unpalatable to you.(you don't have to read it!)

Just my attempt to get things back on the subject of money saving!

Well it took just over a year to get a correct bill and that was with the help of the Energy Ombudsman too!!!

If they do respond to me I guess I'll be retired by then!!!!!! :D
