  • Recently became a customer of UW. Here are some facts: I spend about £100 per week in Sainsburys I spend about £45 per week on petrol in Sainsburys I needed an extra phoneline My son speaks to his friend in Australia for up to an hour each day And so now; I get about £30 cashback each month My broadband costs me £20 (line rental, good connection and free calls 24/7 inc. Australia) It's won 3 WHICH Best Buy awards My extra line costs me £2 per month and I get free calls on that as well I'm not paying any extra for my gas and elec (previously with npower) I will get £100 back if I stay for 12 months and give 3 meter readings I am not tied in to any contract I get more money off my bill just for recommending to a friend Now, I debated a long time to join UW but finally did it in November. I'm happy so far. There's a lot of negativity here about UW and I know we are all entitled to express our thoughts and opinions, but can anyone actually point me to a better all round deal. if so, i will sign with them Alfie

Good to hear someone talking a lot of sense. I'm a UW Member and Distributor but only because it makes sense to me based on the same deals as Alfie quotes.
Last month I bought a new kitchen in B&Q in their sale for just £900 but then got £45 CashBack. For Free, For Nothing! as my costs were already covered. The month before it was £36.40 just for doing my normal shopping. If you know of a better way of saving money on top of the savings already on offer (55% off at B&Q) then that'd be great. In the meantime I'm happy with UW and the deal they give me!
PS I don't have my phone with them yet due to my BT contract but the latest BT rip off looks like bringing a £200+ PA saving my way sooner.:j

For the benefit of those new readers who are not inclined to go back into the history of this thread, janninew has adopted a very sensible course of action.

She ditched her very expensive UW gas and electricity:T and retained UW for her phone and kept her cashback card.

As has been stated many times, there is absolutely no point in spending several hundred pounds more for your gas and electricity with UW in order to get their card. You then need to spend several thousand pounds on that card in selected shops just to recoup the extra you spent on gas and electricity.

For instance taking the average UK customer(figures in posts above). They would spend over £300pa extra on gas and electricity with UW than the cheapest tariff. To recoup that extra you would need to spend over £6,000pa in shops that accept the UW card. - be aware also that you buy the card and pay to top it up each time, as well as lose interest on the money.

There is also the option that you get cheap gas and electricity and use another cashback card. However as operastar/1carminestocky/carespress(delete as required;)) would love to debate, those cards might not be as convenient to use as the UW card.

The most important issue is surely that gas and electricity from UW will cost on average several hundred pounds a year than the cheapest tariffs.
I only spend £120 a month on Gas and Electricity and the UW price is as good as I can get looking on the comparison sites. I'd love to know how I can save £100's by switching away from UW. I'm saving money with the CashBack card everymonth too even though I shop around for best deals. I think you are mistaken with your figures. If we're being mislead by UW and the fact that our spending is down, I think we're at greater risk of being mislead by your possibly uninformed comments. Why waste your energy trying to run UW down. If we're so stupid why not leave us to it and get on with your life? We're obviously beyond redemption but happy!
    Happy Moneysaving!:)

I see 1carminestocky/carespress/operastar and is leading the UW fightback!!

For the benefit of new readers, and existing UW customers, be advised that:

UW gas and electricity is just about the most expensive in UK and £hundreds more than the cheapest tariff - generally around 30%.

That fact can be confirmed by checking the tariffs in any comparison website or by comparing the tariffs yourself. Use the WHICH comparison website if you wish.

There is no need to listen to either side of the argument on this thread, just confirm the facts with any independent source.

As an example the average UK customer uses 20,500kWh gas and 3,300kWh electricity. In my area(Midlands) that will cost £894 with the cheapest supplier, the cheapest UW tariff is £1,199. That is £305 and 34% more expensive if you are silly enough to have UW as your gas and electricity supplier.

    You are wrong!

I suspect on £120 a month for gas and electricity you are spending £300 to £400 a year more than the cheapest supplier.

However post your gas and electricity consumption and area and we will see who is mistaken.

What is the betting you won't post your consumption?

    P.S.
The reason we post is to inform anyone reading this thread of the very high prices UW charge and the tactics they employ. This is a money saving website.

So by keeping you telecoms package with UW you could be getting it for free.

Hmmm, not tied into a contract but you don't get the benefit unless you stay a year ?? I suppose in a strict technical sense you're right your not tied in. lol

now about your energy bills, post you annual consumption and I'm sure a cheaper deal can be found unless you are someone with really unusual usage. Then you can call yourself a money saver in the true sense of the forum

Deary me. I see you are steadfastly refusing to engage in debate regarding something you know absolutely nothing about (but chose to mention). Nothing ever changes, eh? Babee card? You know, the card you pitted against the UW card but then stated you had no intention of discussing? LOL. Come on, let's have a discussion on the merits of cashback cards. I'm sure Quentin will help you out when you start to struggle (most likely in your first post). I can't believe you don't want to take me on. Scared? It's only the internet...Bluffer Extraordinaire.

I assume you have been banned as 1carminestocky? as you were as Carespress.

I thought you wouldn't be able to resist coming back on here.

Why would Carmine have been banned? Doesn't it say next to their name if they have had their posting rights removed?

I'm sure I read on here that its easy to trace people who have more than one identity and it had been done to trace a UW rep posing as somebody else. If it was so simple then, why is it not being done now? Or has it been done and the results aren't what people hope? I'm quite curious!

Another name he has been referred to previously is A Stocky Mincer

I have wondered if he was banned by his employer, rather than by MSE.

I thought UW distributors had been warned not to post in this thread anymore.

Pray tell us how you expect to save £200 by switching from BT.
