Do you actually use one?
Nigewick,
As has been stated many times, it is not in dispute that UW have a very good cashback card.
My reluctance to discuss cashcards on this thread is that The Troll(carespress) will immediately divert all attention to the relative merits of cashback cards.
You can see the tactics employed when I suggested Skype as one of many methods to obtain cheap calls. That remark taken completely out of context to divert attention away from the silly post he made - and is now obviously regretting!
You don't have to have the brains of an Archbishop to Google about cashback cards to find one that enables you to get vouchers for 5% off in Sainsbury's and 7%? in Waitrose. However I have no idea, and no interest!, how easy it is to use etc - and any mention of the card will get The Troll into diversion overdrive.
This Troll led fixation with questioning my lifestyle, or Kippen's lifestyle or any opponents lifestyle is plain crazy. The aim, presumably, is that if we chose a product or service that is not the cheapest it proves that we are unqualified to advise on any Money Saving matter.
Well I for instance have a house bigger than my needs, I drive a big car that gives very poor mpg, I use banks that are not the cheapest to operate, Insurances that are not the cheapest, sent my kids to fee paying schools. etc etc.
However I suspect you and almost everyone on this forum are guilty to a greater or lesser extent of similar 'indulgences'. I suspect that all of us are aware that we have not taken the cheapest option, but have our reasons for our choice.
As you are very well aware, the whole point of this thread is Utility Warehouse. The aim of some of us is to combat the plain untruths that are being stated about UW prices by vested interests.
The principal 'untruth' is that UW gas and electricity prices are not expensive. You know, and I know, that they are just about the most expensive in UK.
Of course you can offset those high prices by a large spend in the shops that accept the UW card.
However you can save far more by paying £hundreds less for your gas and electricity with a cheaper company and getting Broadcall from UW and still have the card. The loss of some inclusive phonecalls by not having 4 services is easily overcome at very low cost by using one of many telephone services, or indeed paying for them with UW.
If anyone wants to carry on using UW despite the extra cost, that is totally their prerogative. However don't expect to come on this forum and pretend that UW do not have extra costs and expect not to be challenged.0 -
LOL. I've met some strange types on the internet but Rupert HAS to be the strangest. In fact, I'm not even convinced he's real....or certainly not FOR real.
He's the typical keyboard warrior - all bluster and advice/i'm the expert, listen to me but carps himself when asked what HE does to save money/asked for futher details to back up his claims. Compared to him most people on here are an open book - happy to discuss where we shop, WHAT CASHBACK CARD WE USE, LOL. Not Rupert, he won't even say where he gets his groceries from!! It's pathetic and his credibility has been in tatters for almost as long as this thread has been running.Call me Carmine....

No point in getting a discount of 5% if everything you are buying is 5% more expensive than elsewhere.0 -
Note carespress has still not answered a single question.0

So it seems Cardew confesses to being wasteful with his energy, and admits to paying over the odds for his own bills. He says that discounts are unimportant. I have tried to be open minded but whichever way I think about it that does not really sound like Money Saving Advice to me.
He ignores the many discounts that UWDC customers get. Yet he still believes he has the ability to give people advice about saving money. He still believes his opinion is worthwhile as a Money Saving Expert. His only quote he now makes is his general statement that he believes UWDC are expensive on energy, something that has been proved to be incorrect because even without the many UWDC discounts there are cases where UWDC are cheapest tariff even on internet energy switching sites that incorrectly count the UWDC membership fee twice.
He also tries to ridicule others who in fact are paying less than him. He makes up names for these people to try to divert attention away from himself.
I pay far less than he does for his bills because I actually practice what I preach. I economise and save my money. I benefit from many discounts with UWDC that continue. I don't have to keep switching company to get a discount from the standard rates. I believe the money is better off in my bank account by paying less. I also get award winning service in a single place.
Whichever company people wish to go with is completely up to them, it's not my decision. People have different reasons for their choices. I don't ridicule them for their choice, they have made a decision after all. If Cardew does not mind wasting money and energy, that is completely up to him. I don't give advise on here simply because if I did I would get accused of spamming. However, people come here to these discussion forums to seek advise about saving money. Many people find UWDC ends up being a very simple and effective solution to gain access to discounts that in combination means they pay far less and have a solution that is in one place with a trusted multi award winning company.
His only advise it seems he gives is to avoid UWDC and go with another company other than UWDC. He has never been a customer, does not know much about them and will not admit that there are cases where a UWDC customer ends up paying the least in the country. Yet his recurring advise is to avoid them at all costs. My only question to this is why he would do this. It does not matter to me where someone goes, it's up to them. I regularly get customers from referrals from long term existing customers, I don't need to come here to try to get customers. However, his advise to avoid UWDC seems just based on him wanting to tell people what to do. Going back to the first paragraph, Cardew confesses to being wasteful with his energy, and admits to paying over the odds for his own bills. He says that discounts are unimportant. I have tried to be open minded but whichever way I think about it that does not really sound like Money Saving Advice to me. If he wishes to waste money that is his prerogative but he should respect people who wish to save.

I would gladly tell you about it and explain how it works in detail but there is a policy on this site that effectively means I cannot else it would be seen as spam. I have been a customer for many years and have all my services with them. I would not move elsewhere but that is my choice. However, what you have asked is what is it and if it saves me a lot of money on my bills so I guess I am allowed to give you me opinion as a customer.
UW is the Utility Warehouse Discount Club. It is a discount club where you get various discounts off your bill. It provides various services and award winning customer support on one bill and in one place.
I get the cheapest I can in country overall once the many discounts are applied. I use UWDC gas and Economy 7 electricity. However my house is very efficient and I find every way to save every last unit. It's not actually that difficult to do, it's just economising. My usage means that even without the UWDC discounts my dual fuel price with UWDC usually ends up being the cheapest out of all companies even with their discounts. When the various discounts are applied to my bill I end up paying far less than I would elsewhere and I have all my services with UWDC apart from water but that is not deregulated yet. I continue to get those UWDC discounts as well. Elsewhere I would have to keep swapping company to keep getting a discount.
Sorry to not answer in detail but if I go into more detail there will be many cries of spam.

LOL. At last confirmation from the leg end himself Cardew/Rupert that the words 'moneysaving' and 'Cardew' shouldn't even be in the same paragraph let alone sentence. But, dear readers, rest assured he will still be attempting to tell you exactly what to do when it comes to money saving, just as long as you don't ask him for real world examples of how he's followed his own advice. Useless old bluffer? You decide.Call me Carmine....

As uw are amongst the most expensive energy suppliers this claim is just unbelievable. (Or put another way, it's a lie)0
