If you agree with the troll, perhaps you as a rep could explain how this rep is going to get "terminated"? And why him and not all the rest who deliberately mislead. The uw knows what is going on in their name, but hides behind the "they are independent reps" defence doesn't it? And what will happen to his residual income after he's terminated?

How often do they terminate people who seemingly just follow the company line of avoiding detail, concentrate on the savings to be made, keep mentioning the worthless guarantee, etc etc?

    Dear Quentin

You continue to say that "UW" hides behind the "they are independent reps" defence. Could you please provide a factual reference to this accusation from the company or desist from stating it as fact.

    Thanking you in advance

This was the answer they gave to the ASA when hauled over the coals for misleading advertising in fliers!

And you often see it cited here (eg over the discussion regarding the ukpower comparison site paying cashback to anyone switching to uw).

Hope that calms your "Mad" face in your response.

    Mike,
Well if UW don't hide behind the 'they are independent reps' defence:

    1. Do you have any comment about the ASA adjudication mentioned by Quentin?

    2. What do UW do about flagrant abuse such as that displayed by Higgins-Sons? Why don't they cancel their registration with the company?
  • So, from researching what is available, to sum up the UW package of services, without mentioning prices or wooly guarantees :

Home Phone and Broadband - can be combined to give 'Broadcall'
Mobiles are available on various different tariffs with choice of handsets
Internet Phone - works through a router giving another phone line
Freephone - allows customers to get their own 0800 no.
Gas is on three tariff levels. Prices vary depending on region
Electricity is on three tariff levels. Prices vary depending on region
Discount Card - 5% cashback in defined shops, credited against bill.

Any combination of, or all of these services can be included in a custome's package.
All services appear on the same single bill, and are paid by a single DD.
Usage is charged one month in arrears.
The customer can pay on either a budget plan or a pay as you use scheme.
Further discounts are applied to telephony depending on how many services are taken.
Discount/cashback card can make additional savings on standard prices.
Customer can refer friends for further monthly discounts.
There is no other single company that can offer the same range of services all in one package.

    Hi uptomyeyeballs

Other things to add to your list

A comprehensive Business Package for SME's
3 levels of membership which include provide increased benefits, including freephone customer services, freephone broadband technical support, free accidental death cover and free redundancy protection.

If you report it, i'm sure they'll do something about it. If you don't report it, they'll do nowt. So you know what to do. I hope everyone else does the same. 'We' all agree it's an apalling website.

PS. Strange how you appear just when Quentin is getting himself into trouble again isn't it?

It's extraordinary, isn't it? :p Happening with alarming regularity as well. Having said that, Cardew once accused Quentin of 'parasitic behaviour' on another thread and the 'conversation' got so heated that it ended up with one of them reporting the other to abuse, lol. Busom buddies in this thread. Weird. Although I would challenge Cardew to back up Quentin's 'UW teach distributors to be deceitful' allegation...

    Hi Cardew

    1. Which ASA adjudication? - I can't comment on it if it isn't presented.

    2. I will watch with interest on this one. If any ID was to report the website to the company they are very unlikely to advertise the fact on here.

Until Quentin is able to produce factual evidence of such a claim it should not be stated as fact.

    Regards

I hope this ASA detail isn't going to be like Quentin's last faux pas with the 'we are the cheapest' claim.

Good stuff. I've reserved one for pick up as I'm tempted to leave it at my dad's for when I'm down there (increasingly often these days), instead of lugging the laptop down every time. The standard 2 year warranty makes it an even more tempting deal TBH.

Blimey carmine, how many laptops and computers have you got??

Didnt you get one of the other ones you posted a couple of weeks ago?

Why are uw now getting called the "useless warehouse"?

It seems they have introduced new rules which mean new reps who sign up their mates find that the customers get taken off them by the company if they sign up prior to attending their training! (Note they take the customers for themselves and never give them back to the hapless new rep who managed to get all his close family signed up!). All supposed to show the regulators that uw reps don't sign up customers until fully trained!

This affects the rep who signed up the gullible as a rep (as any customers taken off the new rep also mean that the recruiter loses them too, and we know the name of the game is really the money generated by all the downline)

Reps are also asked to now collect £200 up front from tenants they want to sign up. And they only get half the commission they used to get (One exception, if the rep is also a tenant, then he gets all the commission on his own bill!)

And the uw now checks names against the land registry and if the name doesn't appear as the owner of the property, then down goes the commision by 50%! If the rep wants the land registry rechecked (eg when a customer has recently moved in, and registry details weren't updated by the time of the first check), then he has to pay an admin fee for the recheck.

All in all they aint happy bunnies!

LOL. We've recently gone totally wireless (not bad for an old luddite ) and replaced 2 of the pcs with laptops. It's not as if we've spent a King's ransom, the 2 I bought recently were both budget emachines (acer in disguise) models and, of course, at the time picked up at the very best deal possible (both less than £300 each net). One was for son's Uni work also. Cushions the blow a bit when you see this on your online UW cashback card account:
    25 Sep 2009 Comet -310.39 15.52
PS We also recently bought an Epson SX200 from Argos for uni son for a very cheap £39.14 on account of its very cheap running costs (compat carts for as little as £1.50-ish)
    12 Oct 2009 Argos Ltd -39.14 1.96

As Sir Terry would no doubt say - every little helps!
