Utility Warehouse (Telecom Plus) Discussion

There's no debate needed.
You regularly break the rules here - and mislead us by claiming to be "very happy" with uw when over on the uw reps forum you are far from happy (especially about uw energy which you post there you wish they would stop selling!)0 -
More rule breaking by a uw rep.
Using the pm system to cynically get round the forum's no advertising rules like this to promote a uw website isn't allowed.
Quick! Back inside everyone, the 'self-styled Forum Police' are coming...
I would hardly call Keggs suggestion 'advertising'. He suggests that the reader may got 'proper answers to their questions'...
Promoting a non-existant cashback card to cynically rubbish a company's services probably wouldn't be allowed either...:rotfl:Utility Warehouse Distributor/Professional Network Marketer0 -
Can somebody be kind enough to answer a couple of simple questions about BT?
1. If I was to sign up with BT would I be locked into a contract?
2. How much is BT line rental, i'm not bothered about caller display, answer machine service etc. Just bog standard line rental.
Thanks!
Janninew
You can find the details about BT phone costs here.

Line rental is £11.25 for direct debit and paperless billing customers.
Minimum line rental period if transferring from another provider is 12 months.

Like this "proper" one from keggs answering a question regarding the cost of BT's line rental?keggs wrote:About £11 if I remember rightly - about £50 more than UW's HomePhone line rental
(Is uw's line rental minus £39 then?)0 -

Not wishing to be pedantic, but do you get this all free with BT, or is it included in your phone bundle. You know how some contributors find that using the word free can be misleading.
Also, can the free phone be used when "roaming" anywhere in the world that has an internet connection available and, would the call charges be the same as your bundled call charges. i.e if you had inclusive 24/7 calls, would this also include the "roaming" calls?
Just trying to clarify if your reply was comparing like with like.
Mike
Mike,
Thank goodness neither of us is pedantic;)
The internet line is part of my BT package – internet/phone and is inclusive in the charge. As you say, the very expression ‘free phone calls’ is an anathema to many on this thread!!
I was referring to Kegg’s use of the expression used as an ‘extra phone line’ and not for use away from the property.
However to use the UW internet phone away from the house – for instance in the Halls of Residence – surely you will need your own telephone line and a Broadband service as the system only works by plugging the phone into the router. – this of course is the point ypaymore was making.
So you need your own landline, a broadband service, and you then pay £50 connection fee and £2 a month to use a UW internet phone.
Most students these days have laptops and use wireless connection – which is presumably why Keggs computer savvy son states it will not work in his Hall of Residence.
I travel abroad extensively, and ring abroad a lot. There are scores of systems where you can phone internationally, or domestically for very little money
Keggs: Nor is it anything similar to Skype so cannot be compared with that either
I appreciate(for obvious reasons) that Keggs doesn’t want the subject of Skype(or similar systems) used for comparison purpose. However it is the obvious choice for people away from home.
It costs nothing to install on your PC/Laptop, all Skype to Skype calls(including video calls) are free(not inclusive – free;)) and whilst the quality can at times be iffy(dependant on signal quality normally) turning off the video and using sound only never gives me a problem.
All my family and several friends are on Skype and we use it to and from countries all over the world.
If I want to use Skype to call a landline(or mobile in some countries – including the USA) it cost 1.25p/min to most countries. The call quality is always excellent. If I really used the phone a huge amount for international calls, it costs about £8 a month for unlimited calls 24/7 to or from 40 countries.
As Skype can be used on a wireless laptop, it is available when you are out and about in any place where you can find a signal.
Of course with BT I have loads of inclusive wi-fi minutes so can use it in airports, cafes etc etc.
Can't you find a way to help Carmine with his Standalone UW calls saga?0 -

No, there will be no arguing.
It will be a forum solely for the benefit of UW salesmen to sell their wares.
Anyone who 'argues' e.g. tells the truth about the outrageous claims they make will doubtless be promtly banned.0 -
Deluded. And scarily obsessive. Be seeing you.Call me Carmine....
HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0 -

Sorry Cardew you are wrong here. You do not need your own broadband a/ line line service when you take it around with you. That's the whole point. You plug it into any compatible router that is available. So if there is a broadband connection in a hotel for instance then you simply plug in the adaptor. End of story.
Hope that helps0 -

There is no point discussing Skype - this is not what the Internet Phone line is. It does not use VOIP. If people prefer Skype so be it. The IPL is completely different. I mentioned Skype simply for that reason - to tell people it wasn't the same or similar. It is a normal phone line that just happens to ues a Broadband connection.
