Utility Warehouse (Telecom Plus) Discussion

Just because you can not see any advantage, does not mean that others can not. I work and my wife does not. 24/7 free calls are a necessity when she gets yacking to her sister or our daughters. I get home at about 16:00 and make calls, so 24/7 free calls is actually good for me as well.T If you work, which I presume many UW customers do, I cannot possibly see any reason to have 24/7 calls, its an unnecessary luxury.
I honestly do not understand why you still refuse to accept that Utility Warehouse can work out best value for some people. The mind of the bigot is like the pupil of the eye; the more light you pour upon it, the more it will contract.

Some of the third party validation comes from newspapers. Of course the writers could be independent distributors, but then, you could be one who did not succeed and are just showing "sour grapes."It should be pointed out(and has been many times) that the 3rd party credibility is meaningless where UW vested interests can vote. The mind of the bigot is like the pupil of the eye; the more light you pour upon it, the more it will contract.

Exactly right. We can call each other for free. In his 3rd year he does a placement which could be abroad. If that happens he could take the Internet phone line with him.

The "average" person is still paying BT, British Gas and other companies' highest rates.Ofcom puts average call costs per UK landline to calls other than mobiles at aroundThe mind of the bigot is like the pupil of the eye; the more light you pour upon it, the more it will contract.

The great plus for me would be to be able to plug the box into my broadband router at work and get my home calls there. My literature says it's £50 to set up a box and £2 per month. How big are the boxes physically? I wouldn't want to carry around something as big as a brick.
Very small. I'll have a look at mine and let you know.

I can not remember you, Quentin, Jimexbox or any other Utility Warehouse detractor writing that. I do recall I keep mentioning it is not for everybody, very few of us are "average," personal choice and use your own figures before making a decision. But, the naysayers keep trying to tell me that I am wrong and should get my gas and electricity elsewhere, even though I currently pay less than I would with any other company. We have repeatedly said that nobody is suggesting you should do other than stay with UW if that is your choice. The mind of the bigot is like the pupil of the eye; the more light you pour upon it, the more it will contract.

Quite right! Why have you, Quentin, Cardew and the others skewed the results against Utility Warehouse?! :eek:The methodology used by 'Which' is open to abuse. The mind of the bigot is like the pupil of the eye; the more light you pour upon it, the more it will contract.

I haven't but I am sure others will have. I suggest you start another thread on it though, as this one is really for discussing Utility Warehouse and gets a bit heated at times.has anyone heard of easy energy save??The mind of the bigot is like the pupil of the eye; the more light you pour upon it, the more it will contract.

Irrelevant. You are squirming. The point is, most people don't use these prefixes and the average saving is still under £5 a month. With the prefixes as a valid alternative the true saving is even smaller. Vinny said "most" people make daytime calls. They clearly don't. "Most" is more than half of the population, right? Even if half of the population of the UK spent nothing at all on calls other than to mobiles, the other half would still be spending only an average of circa £10 a month. It's really not possible to make out that it's a worthwhile saving for "most" people. It was simply not true.1carminestocky wrote: »In the absense of a response from mech, I would imagine he's talking about 18185? 0.5p per minute PLUS 5p connection fee so that 1 sec call in the day would be 6p, I believe (rounded up?). mech also fails to mention that IIRC the cost of calling an 0845 number with 18185 has recently increased from 0.5p/min to 3p/min PLUS the 5p connection charge so a 59 sec call to these numbers during the day would amount to 8p. 0870 costs a penny more.
You could program the prefix into a preset on the phone. Very little hassle to press one extra button each time. Forgetting is indeed possible, but for those who can manage it, it still reduces the potentially less-than-£5 saving of being lumbered with UW electricity and gas. That's the point. The saving is minimal for the vast majority of people.Vinny, of course, makes a very valid point regarding b*ggering about with dialling a prefix - kids will frequently forget to do it! OK if, like mech, you live on your own, of course. Still a bit of b*ggering about, though.I'm glad I don't have to, TBH.0
