In the absense of a response from mech, I would imagine he's talking about 18185? 0.5p per minute PLUS 5p connection fee so that 1 sec call in the day would be 6p, I believe (rounded up?). mech also fails to mention that IIRC the cost of calling an 0845 number with 18185 has recently increased from 0.5p/min to 3p/min PLUS the 5p connection charge so a 59 sec call to these numbers during the day would amount to 8p. 0870 costs a penny more. Vinny, of course, makes a very valid point regarding b*ggering about with dialling a prefix - kids will frequently forget to do it! OK if, like mech, you live on your own, of course. Still a bit of b*ggering about, though.I'm glad I don't have to, TBH.Call me Carmine....

Well I can't get your figure of £976.38. Am I or you doing something wrong?
Energyhelpline give this for UW high user:
Standard User for electricity they give as:
So
Gas £44.10 + 15000 x 3.427p = £514.05 Total £558.17
Electricity £25.20 + 3,300 x 11.909p = £393 Total 418.20
UW membership £21.12
Total £999.47
However to save £4 pa doesn't this make UW's claim of straightforward tariffs something of a nonsense.
There are 3 UW tariffs - (high, standard and low user) and to get the best deal you have presumably to know in advance what your consumption will be in the year ahead to take advantage of the 6 combinations available.
If you use more, or less, gas or electricity than you forecast you could find yourself paying more than the optimum(the UW optimum of course!)
Whichever combination you use UW are much higher than any of the BG tariffs you gave.
Like everybody on the UW 'side' has been saying (but you just don't seem to get it) UW ISN'T FOR EVERYBODY but, unlike your supplier/tariff, gives its customers the opportunity to reduce (in my case drastically) the gas and electric annual liability WITHOUT reducing consumption. BG gives no such opportunity. It's up to the individual if they wish to take up this initiative but the fact remains it is very much an option. In that respect UW is unique, which, given you don't appear to have used any other company than BG or BT in the last 20 years (and you flatly refuse to use ANY cashback card), probably explains why you struggle with this 'thinking outside the box'. You've never done it so basically, err, can't. Or simply refuse to try. Either way we get the same result. An inability to grasp the concept that UW can be the cheapest option for many people. A fair summation?

Why can't the anti UW accept that fact and stop being so ignorant as to suggest where we get our utilities from when we have stated that we are perfectly happy with our choice! Sorry for the rant!
We have repeatedly said that nobody is suggesting you should do other than stay with UW if that is your choice.
You have decided that you don't mind the extra £100+ you pay for you gas and electricity; and of course that is your choice.
You seem to think that this thread is purely aimed at you; it is not! It is aimed at the new readers who will want to know about UW prices and some of us are attempting to inform them of the true picture of UW very high gas and electricty prices.
I do wish you wouldn't use emotive words like 'ignorant' for people attempting to point out facts to prospective customers.0 -
blimey!! talk about complicating things!! why not just go on uw website and see the rates in plain english!! When an energy customer joins UW, head office will check the historic usage of the property and band accordingly, this of course can be ammended if/when required. remember KIS !! keep it simple!

My 'net' tariff is about the same as the one you have been paying for over 4 years and i've only been paying it for 2 months. Explain that one.Call me Carmine....

I really dont see the purpose of this Forum, nothing constructive really comes out of it,its just a slagging matc between UW distributors and people who just dont get the overall concept of the Utility Warehouse Discount Club.As said before if you dont like it dont have it!!! why does it have to become so hostile?

I agree. Those 'Big 6' employee chaps must have a real downer on their own companies then. If it's so easy to manipulate a Which? survey then it must apply to all companies surely? Are the Aunties trying to suggest that BG salesmen are somehow more honest than UW ones, or that only UW sympathisers are capable of this sleight of hand? It's bull. What the new readers want to see here is transparent information about UW (or any other supplier in their own thread), and the best people to give that are those who actually represent them or are customers themselves, not some self-appointed policemen who just wants to slag them off because they've had a bad experience in a former life.
The methodology used by 'Which' is open to abuse. You for obvious reason wish to deny this, but any customer satisafction survey which is open for any 'Which' member to vote, is wide open to abuse by a determined group of individuals hoping to grab some headlines. Did this happen with UW and the 'Which' award? I've no idea, but lets all admit for once that these sort of surveys are ripe to be skewed if enough folk are determined to alter the outcome.0 -
Which? Best Buy status is awarded to the very best products and services tested by Which? This well regarded accolade is only awarded to products or services which achieve the highest results after the rigorous comparative testing and analysis by Which?.
Which? awards, their accreditattion and usage of the logo are vigorously policed by Which? magazine. The integrity of their awards and accreditiation is paramount to their independent status. Therefore letting the public solely manipulate the results of surveys is not possible.

I thought you had me on 'ignore'?
Anyway, we are not discussing product awards that have been tested by Which? themselves, rather their customer satisfaction surveys (if you actually read my post) which rely on Which? members themselves voting/writing in with their own experiences. Which can be skewed by a small fanatical group of individuals, if they so desire.0
