Utility Warehouse (Telecom Plus) Discussion

So, someone just taking the phone line with UW and not having a new line installed has no min. contract and NO penalty to leave? Did I read that right?Call me Carmine....
HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0 -
Yes.
I'm guessing here but I presume the 12 month contract for new lines is basically to cover costs incurred by UW for installing it.
People who were BT (like me) could have their calls transferred to UW using a smart box (later CPS). A few years ago UW was able to take over the line rental as well. Since then BT have introduced contract terms presumably to try and stem the tide of lost customers. UW have few contracts. They don't need to - they are confident in what they offer. That helps IDs as well I suppose.
Cable customers (including Virgin) can't transfer their line rental but they can have their calls diverted away via the UW.
Hope that helps. Have I spammed carmine just out of interest or should I have just answered yes.

Ps I hope I haven't forgotten something just in case Q decides to accuse me of misleading. Not that he does it at all mind you.0 -

My numbers were trusted and you could give any figures you choose to. But, what would be the point of telling a lie? You keep maintaining that Utility Warehouse is expensive and quote "averages" and "comparison sites" but not any individual person's (yours) usage. I have stated that each individual should use their own actual usage to obtain the best deal for themselves. Use the comparison sites by all means, but, only as a guide. One needs to check the actual tariffs, T&C's etc before making the decision as to whether a company is offering best value for one's personal requirements. I have proved that I pay less than I would with any other company by showing my actual usage and letting others see it here. I could have made them up but really couldn't be bothered to make the effort to ensure they proved my point, they just did. Putting up your actual gas and electricity usage, current supplier and tariff will put this bit of the discussion to rest. How can you prove anything on a internet forum? Everything is based on trust, I could give you any figures I wish. The mind of the bigot is like the pupil of the eye; the more light you pour upon it, the more it will contract.

I am a UW ID.
It doesn't infer anything, its a statement of fact. We, as in MSE members have been deceived in recent days/weeks by a UW customer.0 -
I have to say that I would rather pay less for my utilities than with any other company than to whinge about somebody else getting £100 and move to a more expensive company. In fact, I think that's what I will do, stay paying less than I would with any other company. :money:Unless you're a current UW customer who has been shafted in respect of the £100 one off discount offer. The mind of the bigot is like the pupil of the eye; the more light you pour upon it, the more it will contract.

Hi Nige
Why do you think Jimexbox seems so averse to produce his actual figures when he keeps asking for others to do so. Could it be that if he does then his so called 19% might not be correct after all. It might be more for all we know. Equally it could show he saves.
Can't figure out the reticence. And he asked if we had anything to hide over the £100 discount announcement.
Strange to say the least.

ps Going out now - wonder how many pages will emerge when I come back :j0 -
Nige, I'm not against UW. I've already shown how someone could have free broadband and phone with UW, if sufficient is spent on the UW discount card. You could even make a profit. Then you could choose an online energy tariff, which are undoubtedly cheaper than what UW offer.
Folk argue against this because apparently many UW customers are addicted to 0870/0845 numbers, so need the full package to qualify for these prefix numbers. Yeah, OK.0 -
I sleep very well at night because I try to make sure I am telling the truth. I have a problem in that my wife understands me and can read my mind, has a large non stick frying pan that sticks and isn't afraid to use it. OTOH, it could be the booze. :beer:The only person you have to prove anything to is of course yourself. The mind of the bigot is like the pupil of the eye; the more light you pour upon it, the more it will contract.
