You likened me to your father a couple of days ago! - I'me hurt!

Yes, you have certain similar characteristics i.e. domineering, overbearing and dictatorial.

The BIG difference is that my father had a sense of humour which you seem to be sadly lacking. He was tolerant of other peoples' opnions and choices in life. He may not have agreed but he was accepting of alternative viewpoints, willing to listen and let people lead their own lives, according to their own decisions.

You, on the other hand are plainly a narrow minded, bigoted bully, which leads me to conclude that you haven't got the brains you were (allegedly) born with.

How sad to always want to be right! Maybe you've got some sort of ego issues going on, I dunno but think about getting some professional help, eh?

p.s. it's 'I'm' not 'I'me' or perhaps you want to argue about that as well?

Incidentally, my father has recently died so the chances of me finding him soon are pretty remote. I still think of him in the present tense so maybe my post threw you a little with its wording. I apologise for my bad grammar and sentence structure.

OK, can't use tab in quick reply. Try again.

I asked earlier about gettin a PAYG phone from UW and was told that I would get a bill only for my membership fee, against which I could earn 'cashback'. Not organised enought to try it yet, but could be the winner.

My fix ends next year, but I'm not on BT's network, so would need to cover the cost of installing the line (would UW arrange this as if I ask BT I'll be stuck in a contract?).

There's been a bit of chat about how easy UW bills are to read, coud someone confirm something like this:
    Phone
    Line rental £a
    Calls (fully itemised) £b (variable)
Other features (e.g. caller display) £c

    Broadband
    Monthly fee £d

    Gas
    x kWh over y days
    Standing Charge £(y*e)
    Gas £(x*f) (variable)

    Electricity
    z kWh over w days
    Standing Charge £(w*g)
    Electricity £(z*h) (variable)

    Membership fee
    Monthly charge £i

    Mobile
    Line rental £j
    Calls (fully itemised) £k (variable)

    Discounts
    Cashback Card £l (variable)

    Total (ignoring VAT)
    £(a+b+c+d+(y*e)+(x*f)+(w*g)+(z*h)+i+j+k) - £l
(I'm sure I've missed bits, and possibly some of these will be zero in certain combinations)
That would let me throw everything into a spreadsheet and see how much is being spent on each each month (I like things like that).

So if I sign up for the PAYG mobile now, but make no calls on it my bill would be £(i-l), hoping that l is more than i. Put this money aside to pay for phone line.

    Any thoughts?

    Neatly edited quote Cardew!

Yes, he had very concrete ideals but he wasn't averse to hearing others views and being accepting of them, unlike you!

How was that personally insulting? Unless of course, you recognise some of these attributes and you, yourself, find this insulting. Or not very attractive traits in other people. I haven't found you very accepting of other peoples' personal decisions except when they align with yours.

In other words, you don't like it when people don't do what you dictate!

Are you in some sort of managerial position??

This thread is getting personal so you may have to wait a bit for an answer. ;)

The UW will install a line - I think it's alot cheaper than BTs. Are you Broadband connected. You could opt for an Internet phone line instead. There is a connection charge but the line rental is just £2 per line (£4 for 2 lines) inclusive of Vat.

    Hope that helps

Thanks Keggs, the normality of bickering and !!!!!ing is restored and taken the heat off me and hopefully Cardew's lightbulb moment to morph into a human being.

I'm on cable, so I'd need the phone line to get broadband....
