Continuing my occasional series on searching out the Argos bargains, we seem to have unearthed another one today. We've been looking for an LCD TV for our youngest's bedroom as a birthday gift (no intention of spending Panny-type wonga on it, either) and stumbled on what appears to be a billy bargain:

26" HD Ready LCD TV for £199.99? Seems very decent to me. The owner reviews are more than encouraging as well. Anyway, armed with the trusty UW cash back card off we went. It's now installed in number 2 son's bedroom and seems like a real bargain (obviously time will tell). And another tenner off the UW bill. We did search for a better price on this TV but could only trace the version of it with integrated DVD player (no need as it's now hooked up to his Xbox360) and this is what we found:

£180 extra for a dvd player and a couple more inputs? Daft.Call me Carmine....
HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0 -
Ha ha ha. Ive asked you specific question whether a person should only take gas and electric with UW and you have blanked me more than Paxman Vs Howard. Now that is embarrassing.
If you have a reasonable question please ask. The fact that UW are vastly more expensive than my current supplier, and you fail to ask why is slightly odd. Uh hum.
Really?I've answered you every time but it seems because the answer doesn't meet your pre-conceived requirements you accuse me of ducking it. Very strange. Very reasonable question coming up - what Eon tariff are you on and what's your annual usage? It must be fairly high. Have you moved house recently?

My updated annual usage with eon is £1345, with UW it would be £1600. Ouch, what a hike.0 -

Eon save online.
Do you recommend that I switch only my gas and electric to UW? Please don't ignore my question, as I really would like answer.0 -

HaHa. Would you like me to suggest your usage on £1345 a year? Who's evading the question now?
PS On your usage at the moment, lol, and given that you don't appear to be interested in using any cash back card for shopping (another question you have totally ignored, lol), I'd stay where you are, personally. Even though you believe they treat you like a muppet.

He's gone again....oh well. I can't understand jimexbox's reluctance to state his usage figures. He must have them to hand, he's been on the switching sites with them and calculated his 'savings' compared to UW. How strange...Call me Carmine....

You just cant bring yourself to admit it can you? Well being a UW shareholder its obviously not in your interests to admit that UW provide expensive energy. My predicted energy consumption is not only based on last years usage, but also changed circumstances which can affect overall consumption. A concept alien to many, but good practice if you dont want a large hike next year.
So again would you recommend that I switch from Eon to UW? Its an extra £255 extra than my current tarrif, can even you make that work? Seriously I would value your opinion as to whether it makes financial sense.0 -
This is a thread about UW.
It is swamped by people with a vested interest in promoting UW and it needs someone to point out the realities of UW gas and electricity prices. The mind of the bigot is like the pupil of the eye; the more light you pour upon it, the more it will contract.
