Over to you Quentin

Do you consider that post really contributes a great deal to the discussion on the merits/demerits of UW?
I save money in a way that I am happy with by using Utility Warehouse services. Carmine has outlined circumstances in which he would be happy to use Utility Warehouse services and challenged everybody to show him a deal where he will save more money. Nobody has been able to find him anything so far. Quentin and yourself persistently try and show the company to be poor value but you have never produced actual comparison figures quoting unit costs for your best buys.
You did not answer the point below.

Not necessary, if you can bring yourself to admit that Utility Warehouse brings benefits that will not suit some people but will be exactly what others require.

Having read most of the thread, what would be useful is if someone spent the time to show how UW prices compared each month or quarter, so its easier to see how "competative" they are really being.
i'm a UW customer but even I can see that the "guarantee" is pretty meaningless. so the only option is to see the figures compared over a period of time.:grouphug:

They will never compare at all. This is evident when they say in the small print they won't attempt to "compete" with any dual fuel tariffs/on line tariffs and of course you have to pay the separate club membership fee on top as well.
Even their director admits that even with all the small print exclusions in the worthless guarantee they will never be the cheapest in his video teaching the reps how to use the "guarantee" as a sales aid:

Say what you like, Quentin (where have you BEEN, btw?
), the deal I have posted up clearly demonstrates that, in practice, they more than compete, even taking the cash back card out of the equation (which I felt compelled to do in order to give any of you any sort of chance of finding a better deal). Add that in and it's a totally unbeatable deal.
We can clearly see how the Big 6 operate by this morning's announcement by BG of a '10% cut in leccy charges'. Their Click Energy 2 online tariff (that I'm suspecting many many people will still be paying, thinking they have BGs cheapest tariff) charges £75 MORE per year on 3300 kwhs of leccy than their Websaver 2 tariff (which itself has now been superceded). Why don't you spend your limitless free time having a look at these sort of goings on? Very strange, obsessional behaviour you exhibit, Quentin.Call me Carmine....

I see UW has a rival in the 'take 4 services from us and you get a great deal' field. Step forward Southern Electric. As well as the obvious gas and electric they also do phone and broadband. Only problem, for me, it's quite a bit more expensive than UW for the equivalent package (I get it to £90 more expensive the first year and £130 more expensive thereafter). And that's including SE's very cheapest G&E tariff (fixed until next year with a £75 exit fee!) and minimum 18 month contract on the broadband/phone. Obviously also excluding the UW cash card in these calculations. Disappointing in other words.

Can Southern Electric produce just one bill for all their 4 services or do they still rely on trying to put 4 bills in 4 separate envelopes with 4 direct debits?

You say that the guarantee is meaningless but I think you are wrong. It has a very specific meaning. As has been pointed out, Utility Warehouse per unit prices only beat about 15% of the highest ones in a straight comparison. But, those highest prices are paid by the vast majority of people in the country. However, if those higher prices are reduced, UW are obliged to beat them again, even without quoting their own lower figure. For those who can not be bothered with shopping around every few months, this make sense. For people prepared to use the cashback card to full advantage, UW's overall deal can not be beaten. Carmine has listed what he wants, and nobody has been able to find him a better deal, even without use of the card. Your circumstances may mean that you can get a better deal if you shop around. That's fine. However, many people will get the best overall value from Utility Warehouse. That's fine too.

For the benefit of any new reader - regular readers move on to a more interesting post.
Nigewick,
Your posts are really getting ever more disingenuous as time goes by.
For years UW have supplied gas and electricity at a considerably higher price than all of their rivals.
The very specific meaning of the guarantee is that they will beat the most expensive BG tariff as long as you exclude any discounts that you get with BG and exclude the UW club membership fee.
In practice that means UW are more expensive than the tariff they guarantee to beat. If that isn't meaningless, I don't know what deserves that description.
If you can't be bothered to shop around to get the best deal, then you might lose out some of the time.
However if you stick with UW you can be guaranteed to pay amongst the highest prices all the time.0
