You can see the way the TP MLM is structure in their business opportunity brochure here,
    http://www.businessopportunityplus.co.uk/success.pdf

I'm not a customer but was approached by my pension members club to join, hence my interest.
I will admit to being a bit wary of such schemes having been to a couple of Amway presentations in the past.

Any large business has to have a structure. In MLM you get to the top by working hard and get paid for your efforts.

How easy is it to get to the top in a normal company.

You're getting away from the purpose of the thread which is how to save money by using Utility Warehouse services.

Well I did clarify my comments, and no I dont and didn't feel bad.;)

Each to their own but I generally like to be armed with the real facts before making allegations (even implied ones). Makes life much less embarrassing...

Anyway, let's re-iterate. I feel I should post up my figures again based on the fact that the previous projected cashback card spend was way too conservative. The £6,000 per year I predicted looks like it will be attained just on Sainsbug groceries and petrol alone, so the true figure could very easily run to £9,000. Let's look again. I would be most grateful if people could come up with a cheaper deal. Can I make it plain I don't want wishy washy suggestions, I would require properly researched and costed alternatives with links to each product, please. Probably just as importantly, are any of you managing to actually save as much compared to the 'best buy' products by doing something 'different' and/or innovative? Again, full supporting facts and figures would be very much appreciated.

    Yorkshire Region:

    Gas 15000 kwhs

    Electric 6000 kwhs

    Silver club membership.

    UW cashback card.

    Phone Line Rental.

    Up to 24mb BB

    40gb download allowance/month

    Free router

Inclusive 24/7 calls to 01, 02, 03 numbers and 10 international destinations (at the moment, could also be inclusive 0845/0870 from 1/4/09 but also means line rental increasing to £9.90 so we will leave that until we have conclusive proof).

    Free calls to CS.

12 monthly paper, fully itemised bills per year listing all 4 services we take.

    One monthly direct debit.

£10,000 accidental death insurance.(I'm not planning for my wife to be in a position to collect this, obviously!)

'Exclusive' discount offers from Prospero Magazine (no idea how good/bad these are but I don't pay extra for it so we'll see).

Option to refer like-minded individuals (people like us with similar shopping habits, I suspect) to UW and earn up to 2% for each person referred. 100% discount on my bill theoretically possible (up to £250 per month and excluding club fees, I believe).

Projected (conservative) annual spend of £9,000 on the card at the designated stores.

(Admittedly slim) chance to win my utilities for the year for free (is this still ongoing?)

Have I misrepresented anything/left anything out here? Please correct me if I have.

Total monthly DD over the course of the next 12 months: £92.42.
    Annual spend £1109.00

I personally think their are good MLM companies and bad ones. As with any company. There are some that try hard to get things right and get good success and others that fail because they don't. To say MLM is bad just because it has a structure seems like saying any business is bad.

A communist probably would not be keen on business in general. A communist would believe that businesses should be owned by the people and nationalised. They believe people should be reliant on the state. However, what they don't see is that in that case it is just owned by the privileged government and not by the people.

You have fallen into the trap laid by the uw reps. They have trumpeted their card as something unique. But you don't need to join up to the uw to get a prepayment card with discount deals.

If you are prepared to do cash in advance, then you can get similar (and better) discount deals with the same sort of stores (Sains/Waitrose/Asda/Comet etc) whereby the discount is knocked off the shopping, not the expensive products from the uw! And you don't need to risk any money with the uw card - you can get access to the discounts via mainstream mastercards from a bank!

Quentin, you do me an injustice! I don't believe I fall into any trap.

I agree with you about getting your discounts etc in other ways and shopping where you wish.

My point was that if you are seduced by the virtues of the UW card(as apparently carmine apperears to be - I am sure he is arguing from conviction;) ) then you can get the treasured card by only having the one expensive service and get the other 3 services from 'conventional' and cheaper companies.

Carmine apparently laid down a challenge for people to tell him how to get a better deal than the one he got people to post.

Well he could certainly get all four of his services cheaper from other providers; however he intends to spend £6,000pa on his card to make the package cheaper.

He knows with absolute certainty that he could take my advice(I have his interests at heart) and only have one service from UW, get the card and spend his £6,000 . The other 3 services he could get from other providers at cheaper rates than UW.

Now how could that possibly not be a better deal?

However he won't admit it, of that I am confident. He will probably try to see if I said something in 2005 that he can use to divert attention.

However he knows, I know, and anyone else who understands tariffs knows, he could get his overall deal cheaper - probably by going to his beloved BG on Websaver2.

Because you are trying tell him what he needs rather than letting him make a choice that suits his circumstances and wants. Also, he has provided actual figures and you have not shown him evidence that your ideas will actually save him money compared to what he has worked out using Utility Warehouse and the pre payment card. I am sure that if you prove something is better value for him, he will go for it.

From Energy Helpline, Yorkshire Area figures you would be paying £1295 for your Gas and electricity with UW, the cheapest online tarrif was with EDF Online 6 at £1099. So you need to find £196 in cashback. Needing a spend of around £4000 on the UW card.
So disregarding the other services it looks like you have a potentially very good deal, on energy alone.

    Penrhyn,

In that link for UW it states the following:

    Gas and Electricity

You’ll be amazed at how much you could save compared with the cheapest
direct debit tariffs available from our competitors.

Now given everyone, even the most hardened UW representative, accepts that all the Big 6 have much cheaper tariffs than UW for gas and electricity.

The only way I can think of that UW can claim that statement is true, is that none of the big 6 are their competitors.

    So who are their competitors?
