So who are their competitors?

Because you are trying tell him what he needs rather than letting him make a choice that suits his circumstances and wants. Also, he has provided actual figures and you have not shown him evidence that your ideas will actually save him money compared to what he has worked out using Utility Warehouse and the pre payment card. I am sure that if you prove something is better value for him, he will go for it.
.
No I most certainly am not telling him what he needs. I would be absolutely delighted if he becomes a UW customer and hopefully a distributer - he would be a most valuable colleague for some of the posters in this thread.
If Penryn's figures are correct that his gas and electricity alone would cost £196 pa more by getting them from UW rather than EDF, he would make that saving off his annual outlay.
Therefore by getting phone and broadband from UW he still will have his card and the discount from spending £6000 in Sainsburys etc.
So he is already £196 a year better off.
Now should he be able to get either phone or broadband cheaper than UW there will be still further savings to be made off his annual savings and he will still have his beloved card.
Carmine, I simply can't resist the temptation! I am going to take you off my ignore list so I can read your response.
Please try to just respond to that point above and no personal attacks. We really can be friends you know;)0 -
Apparently Quentin and yourself.

Now now, Nigel, I believe you are displaying what is commonly labelled as a sense of humour and I'm not sure whether that wouldn't be frowned upon round these parts. Come to think of it, and this a serious question, has anyone seen even a hint of humour in any of Quentin's and Cardew's posts on here? Like, ever?Of course, having a sense of humour is by no means a prerequisite of posting here or anywhere else on MSE for that matter but I do find it can make the threads (especially confrontational ones like this) a more pleasurable experience. Surely people can't take it all so seriously continuously....can they?
If I had the choice, I know who's table I would prefer to be on come the MSE Xmas party. As you were...

AT LAST! I've been waiting for this moment to put YOU on ignore! Done! Been a looonnnggg wait. Your posts and personality I find so depressing and some of your aggressive point scoring deeply unpleasant. The World is depressing enough without reading your relentness and humourless dirges. I thank you and I promise you that you will never darken my virtual door again.Have fun!

Please can you explain what UW classes as a standard tariff?
Vinny has also mentioned that they compare against "The cheapest standard tariffs" but as yet hasnt explained what a "Standard tariff" is.
Npower SOL14 can be operated with standard billing, no need for a computer at all, if you look on comparison sites it even has the word "Standard" in the tariff name.
Are you seriously suggesting UW is "competitive" with SOL14 (on price)??Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -
From Energy Helpline, Yorkshire Area figures you would be paying £1295 for your Gas and electricity with UW, the cheapest online tarrif was with EDF Online 6 at £1099. So you need to find £196 in cashback. Needing a spend of around £4000 on the UW card.
So disregarding the other services it looks like you have a potentially very good deal, on energy alone.
Thanks for the reply! Slightly more, Penrhyn. £1302 to be precise as I am proposing to pay the slightly higher silver membership, which I believe is £27.60 per year. Of course, these are still pre-decrease figures. £4,000 per year equates to £77 a week in Sainsburys on groceries and fuel. Seriously, how many regular Sainsbug shoppers would spend this much? I would imagine a few million. No? That is, of course, ignoring any potential spend at the other High Street names...Call me Carmine....

Normal response! avoid the issue and a gentle, but irrelevant, dig.
The MSE Xmas party seating plan issue gives me every incentive to carry on posting in the same humourless manner as you perceive.
Now about all that money I am trying to save you by only taking one UW service; any comments?0 -

Only problem, PC, is to get anywhere near the figures quoted on the switching sites you have to pay that tariff for at least 12 months (and don't whatever you do miss a payment). I *think* for my usage (correct me if I am wrong) the ANNUAL discount PAID IN ARREARS is £105? In other words, it's a cancellation fee in all but name. You'e 'tied in' for 12 months. With npower.
Edit:Direct Debit discount of £21 per year for gas and £21 for electricity. Dual fuel discount of £63 per year. Total discount of £105 per year.
All prices shown are inclusive of VAT at 5%.
Additional Information
Tariff Information The savings quoted include any discounts associated with this tariff. The discounts will be paid to you annually in arrears from your final bill of each 12-month period. To qualify, you must take your supply from npower and pay by the same payment method for a full 12 month period – this period does not have to be a Jan-Dec calendar year.
At the moment, on my usage, this tariff is £112 cheaper than UW. Pre-decrease. But all but 7 quid of that I have to wait 12 months for? No thanks. Plus, have I said this before? It's npower.Call me Carmine....

Fair point about the discounts being paid after 12 months, still cheaper though isnt it? Even if you were to leave and forfeit those discounts.
