  • Here's a question that's always intrigued me. When BG say they have 16 million domestic customers, are the ones on a dual fuel agreement counted as 2? Reason I ask is if you add up all the customers each supplier claims to have on their books, it seems to add up to way more than the amount of households in the UK. suspect.gif

As already posted, they claim it gets cheaper the more services you have.

It's just not true. You don't get any discounts by taking more services. If you take ther (expensive) phone rental, then they give you "free" calls over different time periods of the week, depending on how many you take, that's all.

    Hi Quentin

This paragraph seems to be double talk somehow. You are saying that there are no discounts, apart from the various call packages. Therefore, surely this means there are savings (discounts) by taking more services. Also, could you explain to me the phrase "if you take their (expensive) phone rental" - The phone rental is currently £8.99 - this doesn't sound excessively expensive to me for a "BT" line.

    Thanks

    Mike

OK, Im really bored of this back and forth so can I ask a couple of questions to each 'side' in the pro and against camps on UW?

    1) Can we all agree that it is possible to save money if you take out the full services? If not can anyone compare what was posted before about services someone had (was it Carmine?) and find it cheaper?

    2) Can any distributer/defender explain the exacts of this guarantee and how it can be claimed against? Is it actualy anything more than meaningless words to sound good?

    3) Is UW ever actually a better choice than any of the other big 3 if all you want is gas and electric?

Can anyone answer those questions without blubbering on about slander, poetry or just clouding the issue.

Depends what you mean by "The Full services"

    1. UW gas and electricity prices are amongst the most expensive on the market at present prices; and they have been for some years. All the Big 6 + firms like First Telecom have cheaper tariffs.

    2. If you read the phone forums, their phone and broadband prices are far from being a good deal either.

    3. I doubt you will get anyone on here to explain the guarantee, as it would appear to be meaningless.

    4. Provided that you are prepared to pay for their 'cashback card', put up with lack of safeguards(not a huge problem IMO) and use it in the designated shops(Sainsburys for most people) you can get sufficient rebate to make UW a good proposition.

    5. However it is only the cashback card that has any attraction - and who knows how long the discounts and charges will remain at their current levels.

    6. If the cashback card appeals, it seems to me that the wisest course of action for money saving will be to take only one of UW's expensive products(i.e. the one that will cost you the least extra) and use that to get a cashcard.

Why on earth would anyone pay over the top for gas, electricity, phone, broadband etc when you can use just one of those services and treat the inevitable extra you will pay for that service as an additional card fee. All the other services you can get at cheaper rates from other suppliers.
  • Says the person who's paying £35 a month for phone line, 24/7 calls and up to 8mb BB with a meagre 15gb download allowance. There's circa £180/year savings with UW on that alone (certainly on my proposed deal)..

I would guess with BG because they bill separately for each service and so count each service as a customer.

UW now provides 789,000 services. Not bad considering they started with 0 a dozen years ago.

I guess that news will cause a new bout of attacks at them and the distributors.

NigeWick you constantly tell us your "savings" are only managed by offsetting the expensive utilities by also taking and using the uw card to get the bill reduced.
As I am actually paying less for my utilities than with "best buys" mentioned by a forum member, and, this thread is dedicated to Utility Warehouse, your point is?

I reckon cardew should use bullet points instead of numbers for his points. It would look prettier. What does everyone else think?

From Carminestocky, a money saving question Quentin has not answered:-

Anyway, just to come back to proper discussion. Incidentally, here's an offer, if Martin would like me to prove my identity to him and then check with UW to confirm I am NOT a UW distributor I am only too willing to do that. I'm a potential customer (currently with Scottish Power) who is looking for the very beast deal on this MONEYSAVING site. Thank you. I post again:

So, just to recap, here's the UW deal for us (pre-decrease):

    Yorkshire Region:

    Gas 15000 kwhs
    Electric 6000 kwhs
    Silver club membership.
    UW cashback card.
    Phone Line Rental.
    Up to 24mb BB
    40gb download allowance/month
    Free router
Inclusive 24/7 calls to 01, 02, 03 numbers and 10 international destinations (at the moment, could also be inclusive 0845/0870 from 1/4/09 but also means line rental increasing to £9.90 so we will leave that until we have conclusive proof).
    Free calls to CS.
12 monthly paper, fully itemised bills per year listing all 4 services we take.
    One monthly direct debit.
£10,000 accidental death insurance.(I'm not planning for my wife to be in a position to collect this, obviously!)
'Exclusive' discount offers from Prospero Magazine (no idea how good/bad these are but I don't pay extra for it so we'll see).
Projected (conservative) annual spend of £6,000 on the card at the designated stores.

Have I misrepresented anything/left anything out here? Please correct me if I have.

Total monthly DD over the course of the next 12 months: £105.
    Annual spend £1260.00

Is this beatable elsewhere with comparable services?

I don't respond normally to any of 'Carmine's' posts. However as this has been posted several times, I will make an exception.

All of the savings are of course dependant on spending £6000 in other shops on a cashcard.

    So a better deal?

Just get phone rental from UW and the cashcard.

Get gas, electricity, broadband from cheap suppliers.

    Welcome back!

All your previous posts seem to have been deleted, presumably because you cannot resist making personal attacks.

Now whilst this quoted post is not an attack, it adds nothing to the forum. Why can you not address some UW issues and stop making silly posts.

Is it not true that some of those same Big 6 also have some higher tariffs than Utility Warehouse? If so, why do they not offer everybody their lowest tariff and keep prices there?

    Thank you for that admission.
