Cheers Carmine...
I just need to sit down and do the maths at some point. There are a number of factors to consider I guess. Just reading through the cashback card on the UW site, it also states:
"How much does the card cost?
There's a one-off application fee of £9.99 for each card you request. There is no monthly fee for the first six months; after that, each card costs £1 per month. There is also a 35p charge each time you top up your card."
I seem to remember this was raised in previous posts.
What I'll probably do is to 'do the sums' nearer the time and then post them on here for comment.0 -

You're very welcome. I'm very careful about including the associated costs of the card in my calculations (likewise the club fees). For us, this is how I see it - our card fees will be just short of £17 for the year - for a projected £350 discount off our UW bill. Even if you weren't comfortable topping up only every month and topped up every week the yearly costs of the card would rsie to just £30. If you have similar shopping habits to us it's a no-brainer. I'm still waiting for Quentin to take up my challenge...:rolleyes:Call me Carmine....
HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0 -

Agreed - I just need to run through the numbers as you did. I'll look at your detailed post about a week ago or so and use that as my starting point. (Taking into account the different costs for the big 6 due to the different regions.)1carminestocky wrote: »If you have similar shopping habits to us it's a no-brainer.
I don't, but my wife does! I'd prefer not to give her anything that would allow her to say that her spending £120 in boots has just saved us some money from our energy bill. Perhaps I just won't tell her.;)0 -

Cardew = UW
Tiger Woods = Online Energy Tariff
Pardraig Harrington in Major-winning form = UW cashback card.
I think this pretty much sums things up.
UW's energy tariffs are 'competetive' (for a given definition of competetive) with the big 6 standard, quarterly tariffs with no discounts, ignoring the club membership. (I take competetive to mean in the peleton somewhere, but the peleton can be quite spread out.)
There are many cheaper tariffs available on the market than UW.
However, tariffs are not the final bill, and you will need to take discounts, membership fees, switching cashback, card cashback, referal bonuses, etc into account to find the best deal for you within what you are prepared to do to get a deal.
UW's distributors are comaprable to the big 6's face-to-face sales force, and in each you will find bad apples, but UW's methods mean thatt the bad apples appear on here.
Ok, can we move on now?0 -

Hi epsilondraconis
If you pm me your wife's e-mail address I will let her know just how much she could be saving you. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
For info, to get to the website you could try putting in utilitywarehouse.co.uk with a www. at the beginning.

This is a turn up.
You know that this thread gets monitored closely.
You also know it is against all the rules and principles of the site to allow advertising, and that posting links (in this case cynically) is specifically forbidden.
So you know your deliberate rule breaking will be spotted.
So why did you do it?
Maybe you are pushing the boundary to see what happens - if nothing, then what next?
Or maybe you see the damage done to the reputation of the uw by its reps regularly breaking the rules, posting bizarre threats as well as bizarre poetry, and are trying to get the management so fed up they simply delete the thread and place a total ban on any discussion of the warehouse.
(And seeing such action as actually to the overall advantage of the uw!)0 -
Take care if you get offered a martini presentation by anyone down at the gym:

This is yet another turn up in the same day.
At least I was responding to a genuine request for information and made sure that there was no referral link involved, which, if you were to google the same, it is very likely that a referral link would be chosen without being realised.
I also know it is against all the rules and principles of the site to allow advertising, so it would be helpful to know the difference between my carefully chosen words and your actual link to a UW distributor site, which I would not do as this would seem to me to be a very specific contravening of the principles of MSE.

To be fair to MikeByTheSea, it was me that asked for a link.
I didn't want anyone to post anything that breaks the rules regarding advertising. I guess I was looking for a link that would allow me to more easily make an informed decision about whether or not I would save money with UW. It just seems at the moment that I would need to do a bit of rooting around the web to get all of the necessary details. I was hoping there would be a link to somewhere on MSE (there are a couple of examples - one provided by Carmine and so I'll probably use that).
Anyway - sorry all. I didn't mean to kick things off again.
Edit: BTW, it's probably worth comfirming that I'm not a UW distributor. Never have been and never will be. Also, I personally don't know anyone that is. My questions were asked for genuine money saving reasons. I guess there is a fine line between getting answers to money saving questions and breaking site rules over advertising. I'll be more mindful of this in future.0 -
Surely the forum moderator should have stopped all the slander a long time ago. Does it mean the moderator is in agreement with the slanderous remarks that are put forward against UW. Just because someone has a gripe against a company or a vendetta or a personal motive to constantly attack UW, doesn't mean they should be allowed to air it on a public forum. Should slanderous remarks be allowed?
I feel a ditty coming on!
Slander slander all around,
All this hassle to save a pound,
I wonder why I view this thread,
When I should be asleep in my bed.
Nighty night all...0 -
