Taking Quentin's arguments to their nth degree, maybe we should judge ALL anti-UW people like dacouch? Someone who, so desparate to show UW and its distributors in such a bad light, that he deems attempted entrapment and telling blatant untruths to be totally acceptable. Or let's look at Cardew who, in reference to a distributor stating UW don't advertise, stated that the UW ad featuring French & Saunders was shown on the TV every night  . It works both ways..does it not?

    Hi everyone

Can you keep the thread on topic please?

    Thanks!

    Andrea :)

To be fair, every time I try to, i.e. post our potential UW deal and ask if anyone can beat it, I get nothing back but off-topic verbal jousting.

yes of course, it's perfectly sensible to judge a company based on a small number of individuals who, acting indepentently and in many cases against that companies policy, do something daft.

Interestingly, UW hasn't recently been fined nearly £2mil for mis-selling. But a few people spouting crap on the internet is clearly far worse. yes indeedy.

There have been more reps found out as rogues than not in this thread.

(Their posts get deleted, which is why they aren't instantly obvious)

And your sarcastic post in support of uw breaks the rules when you don't declare your interest!

This thread is about UW. (Who have been found guilty of false and misleading advertising by the ASA - even though their reps tell us they don't waste money on advertising!)

And what is the triple guarantee which still has pride of place on the uw website if not mis-selling. Cleverly, the uw knows that the ASA doesn't rule on internet advertising!

Anyway, just to come back to proper discussion. Incidentally, here's an offer, if Martin would like me to prove my identity to him and then check with UW to confirm I am NOT a UW distributor I am only too willing to do that. I'm a potential customer (currently with Scottish Power) who is looking for the very beast deal on this MONEYSAVING site. Thank you. I post again:

So, just to recap, here's the UW deal for us (pre-decrease):

    Yorkshire Region:

    Gas 15000 kwhs
    Electric 6000 kwhs
    Silver club membership.
    UW cashback card.
    Phone Line Rental.
    Up to 24mb BB
    40gb download allowance/month
    Free router
Inclusive 24/7 calls to 01, 02, 03 numbers and 10 international destinations (at the moment, could also be inclusive 0845/0870 from 1/4/09 but also means line rental increasing to £9.90 so we will leave that until we have conclusive proof).
    Free calls to CS.
12 monthly paper, fully itemised bills per year listing all 4 services we take.
    One monthly direct debit.
£10,000 accidental death insurance.(I'm not planning for my wife to be in a position to collect this, obviously!)
'Exclusive' discount offers from Prospero Magazine (no idea how good/bad these are but I don't pay extra for it so we'll see).
Projected (conservative) annual spend of £6,000 on the card at the designated stores.

Have I misrepresented anything/left anything out here? Please correct me if I have.

Total monthly DD over the course of the next 12 months: £105.
    Annual spend £1260.00

Is this beatable elsewhere with comparable services?

in this thread perhaps. Still hardly repersentative of the 25000(ish?) distributors and 400 or so staff.

and yet your frequent posts referring to them do not, clearly giving a one sided view.

hahahahaha. sorry, but you know damn well my declaration has been in my sig for a long time. It's been removed, presumably as 'advertising'. so be it.

I've had a look at UW on the ASA site. From what i've seen the complaints were pretty much technicalities.

of course the guarantee is also in our non internet based service guides. Be careful, that's getting pretty close to libel there and we know how you feel about people breaking board rules (or is it only UW reps you have a problem with?)

finally. if anybody is still in any doubt. I am an independent distributor for the utility warehouse discount club.

You know the guarantee is worthless.

How can it be a "guarantee"?

    1) It doesn't tell us how to claim against it in the event it fails

    2) It merely says uw will be "competitive" but doesn't define what it means by that.

    3) You need to read the small print to discover it doesn't include any discounts for dual fuel, the uw club membership fee, any cheaper internet tariffs, only applies if you pay uw by dd, doesn't attempt to compete with anything but the expensive standard tariffs, etc etc.
  • I've just signed over 2 (very disgruntled) UWDC energy customers at a business networking event today. (I didn't look for their business as I don't normally look for domestic customers - they came to me!)

They were both promised savings by a business associate and both were complaining that the costs were very high. They felt pressured into signing by virtue of the rep being part of their BNI business group. The distributor has left their group - but suprise suprise another one joined straight away!

Who can trust any anti-UW poster on this site anymore when one is so obsessed with attempting to discredit the company that they stoop to entrapment and one 'pretends' he sees French and Saunders advertising UW on the TV most evenings...

    Answer the questions then:

The guarantee is to be "competitive". What does this mean?

How can a customer make a claim against the guarantee?

What is the point of the guarantee if you don't even include the compulsory membership fees which everyone pays in addition to their energy bills?

What is the point of any price guarantee when all it claims to do is remain competitive with competitors most expensive tariffs?

Why do so many uw reps misquote it to say things like "we guarantee to be the cheapest"?
