Utility Warehouse (Telecom Plus) Discussion

One bit of research for someone who is prospective uw rep then would be to look up the utility warehouse and telecomplus at the ASA and see their adjudications for false advertising - especially the false claims made that they are the cheapest!
Then read up on the small print of their main "plank", often used here and no doubt used all the time with the gullibles at the stand at the supermarket - the "guarantee"!
And us readers can assume the Big 6 company you are currently with (which you always rather tellingly refuse to name) have never had any ASA adjudications, then? Feel free to put its name in the search box here:
http://www.asa.org.uk/asa/
Yet another poor argument. :rolleyes:Call me Carmine....

Although you do almost have to admire his tenacity, the ability to consistently ignore the actual point of almost everything I've posted and simply use it as a prompt to post any bad thing he can think of about UW is quite impressive. Although it does render any attempt at reasoned discussion futile.“Things that I felt absolutely sure of but a few years ago, I do not believe now. This thought makes me see more clearly how foolish it would be to expect all men to agree with me.” - Jim Rohn0 -

Agreed. But keep agitating for answers to questions he can't answer and he will then put you on ignore and publicly declare he has (but will still read your posts, of course). He did the same with me but I lured him into a trap I was quite surprised he fell for, tbh. I posted a link to a very old thread in which he and Cardew got so heated with each other that one of them reported the other for abuse . I knew he was on this thread at the time, gave it a minute then checked his profile. Guess what? Reading the very old thread I'd linked to a minute earlier. Co-incidence? :rotfl:
Deep down I think he's probably a nice enough sort but I just think he gets himself worked into a frenzy about something and then his personality doesn't allow him to see ANY positives in it...Call me Carmine....

Trouble is you are going to have to knock on a lot of doors if you want to find only people who will save on their gas and electric with uw.
Even their most hardened reps have admitted on here it can't be done! The mind of the bigot is like the pupil of the eye; the more light you pour upon it, the more it will contract.

Sainsburys are also the cheapest supermarket for our family's needs at the moment (verified on mysupermarket). Who'd have thought it? I'm very thorough when it comes to researching my next potential move and we have been into the store, made some purchases and made an (ongoing) online order. It's a real struggle to get it to £100 for the free delivery, tbh. I've documented it on the Sainsburys thread on the new shopping forum, currently up to 80 items (including a bottle of vodka and a bottle of wine, hic!) and we are still only up to £58.81. According to mysupermarket the 'same' basket at Tesco would be £74.08 and £74.38 at Asda (£127.72 at Ocado ).
I'm sure the cashback card will be a clincher for many potential UW customers as it gives them the chance to have unquestionably the cheapest utility deal no matter what usage they have/postcode they live at etc. An absolutely brilliant idea.Call me Carmine....

Incorrect.
Not incorrect at all! Please reconsider that accusation.
A number of your colleagues have admitted here that uw cannot win on price, and agreed it is not for the type of people who come to this forum.
You seem to be the exception. Though the savings you say you get aren't true savings at all - you rely on doing your shopping at expensive stores to get the discount via the risky cashcard to knock your bills down.
And you never properly gave us your figures/location so that we could test what you were telling us.0 -
Pack it in, Quentin, you are making yourself look even sillier than normal (not to mention worryingly obsessed).Call me Carmine....

My figures.
Yorkshire Region
Gas 15000
Electric 6000
'Starting' UW price: £1295 (there's a reduction to come on 31/3/09, details as yet unannounced). Includes monthly club fee, annualised.
Projected (conservative) cashback card spend (we will shop regularly at Sainsburys now we have verified it's the cheapest supermarket for us) £6000 per year (we've been checking our online bank account and were staggered to see we had spent a total of £1500 at Boots and Argos combined last year!). We spend £50+ per week on petrol and diesel, for instance. The Sainsburys petrol station my wife passes every day currently offering up unleaded at 87.9p/litre and diesel at 98.9p/litre, cheapest or joint cheapest in our area (verified with petrolprices.com). I told you I was thorough in my research, lol.
5% cashback comes to £300. Deduct £12 charges and £5 yearly loading fees and a net £283 discount.
Net total = £1012 for the year (if the reduction is commensurate with their energy partner's npower there's approx another £60 to come off this wef 31/3/09) so maybe £950-ish? 12 fully itemised monthly PAPER bills each year. One monthly DD amount. The opportunity to recommend people like us and earn up to 100% discount off our bill.
Feel free to get me a better deal than that, matey.
Of course, you then unlock all the free calls if you were to also take out their already competitive phone line/broadband offering. 4 services (gas, electricity, phone and BB) entitles you to free 24/7 calls to 01,02, 03 numbers plus 10 international destinations (plus also, apparently, 0845/0870 numbers in the near future).Call me Carmine....

If anyone has an answer to that I'd love to see it.“Things that I felt absolutely sure of but a few years ago, I do not believe now. This thought makes me see more clearly how foolish it would be to expect all men to agree with me.” - Jim Rohn0 -
