So fingers crossed Santander/Halifax wont mess up my transfer of previous tax years contributions which should be happening some time soon.

Then come 6th April i will want to deposit the full ISA amount into the 1yr fixed.

I've just gone into my online banking now to see if it'll let me do that, but when i select my eSaver as the "From" account (as thats where the money will be coming from), the ISA is not listed in the "To" account.

Could i just instead then use the sort code & account number, or do they HAVE to be telephoned?

I'd rather not involve a Santander employee if i can help it as they have a habit of getting things wrong.

Can't you transfer into a current account (bank account) and make a payment from there?
Mortgage Balance £182,789.00 of £259,250.00 Overpayment Total £48,847.13
Monthly payment down £258.82 Overpaid last month £1096.38
    End of month 11/2017

Nope, i can't quick transfer from any of my accounts.
  • You can only transfer to linked accounts from an esaver. So you will have to switch out...or call them and they should manage it.

My Santander online banking allows me to select the eSaver as the source and the ISA as the destination on the 'Transfer between my accounts' screen.

No, you can transfer by FP to any bank account from an esaver (definitely issue 4, not sure about previous)

Try transferring £1 and see if the balance updates? Maybe you need to wait until 6th April for it to show up? Quite interested in whether you will succeed without having to phone.

Blimey, thanks for that thread - - just noticed I cannot internally xfer anything from my esaver or my 123 current to my ISA account, or from my ISA account to either of the others.

I called them, and I think I got a dose of the famous Santander CS incompetence! This is the transcript (it is all 100% true, I am not making any of this up!!)
    1. the Santander chap said internal transfer was a splendid idea. Ooops - - he didn't know it wasn't possible, but was going to consult a colleague....
    2. he then said they disabled the transfer because customers were "abusing" it and transferring more than allowed by the HMRC (at this point, I was beginning to have some fun)
    3. he then went on to say that if I had an account with another bank, I could ask the other bank to electronically transfer money into my ISA. Emphasis on 'ask the other bank', since that would ensure I did not deposit more than the HMRC allows. (this is getting better and better, lol. This guy clearly did not have a clue)
    4. I then asked whether a Faster Payment would be executed instantly(-ish) on a Bank Holiday. He said yes, and reconfirmed this with a colleague, too. I didn't tell him that there was an enormous risk (lol) that I would "abuse" Faster Payment and deposit vastly more than the HMRC allows into my ISA.........
    5. He did ask me whether all this made sense and I said "no, it doesn't, but don't worry"
    6. He confirmed that Santander CS phone support would be available on Good Friday, so may be we can use them as a fallback then. Let's just hope the chap I spoke to today will have the day off! In fact, let's hope that no Santander customer ever gets him on the other end of the phone
I have now messaged them with my question - let's see what they write back.

So bottom line for now is, if you aren't allowed to do internal transfers, may be try calling them on Good Friday and ask that they do the transfer there and then. Otherwise, may be go into a Branch on Saturday (7th) morning and get them to do it then. Just make sure you get a receipt, lol

Just a random thought :rotfl: but is it possible that people can't transfer from any Santander account into their Santander ISA (whether 1 Year Fixed, 2 Year Fixed etc) at the moment, because they have already subscribed (or said on xfer in form that they have subscribed elsewhere) in this tax year?

If that's the case, then come 6th April, it should be possible :T.

The rubbish from Santander employee about 'abusing' the FP system, is just that - rubbish

As i've just said there ^^ despite what Santander offer on their website, you CANNOT deposit money into your fixed term ISA from 6th-14th April.

Oh yes you can say you all. It says so on the Santander website say you all.

Ahh yes, i see it too, but take a look at what i got back when i asked if i could deposit the full amount on 6th April into my new 1yr fixed rate ISA.....
"Thank you for your email. I can confirm as part of the terms and conditions of your ISA account no additional deposits are allowed on your Fixed rate ISA.
Could I please ask you to contact Our ISA department, they can be contacted on 0845 6000 181. They are available from 8am-6pm Monday to Friday and 8am-2pm Saturday to assist you further.
If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact us.
    Regards, Santander Customer Services "

I have just sent them a message back telling them to check their website & to stop giving me false information. If something is advertised, then i want it. I don't want to be told i can't have it.

In addition, i questioned why they continuously try and get me to call without really answering my questions in depth when this is supposed to be SECURE message contact.

K_P83: thanks for highlighting some impending issues - I am still confident that they know, as a bank, what they are doing. However, it is pretty scary that they don't seem to have trained their CS staff properly.

Time to make a note of the email of Santander's UK CEO, Ana Patricia Botin-Sanz de Suatuola O'Shea. Forbes Magazine ranked her the 45th most powerful woman of the world in 2009, so the combination of being the boss of Santander UK and being close to superwoman should ensure she will solve all our problems.

I will be calling on her support, anyway, if anything about my 4% 2-year ISA remains unanswered after April 10 2012 (giving them a chance to get their act together before then).

Pretty sure she would be massively peefed to receive any complaints about her industry-leading ISA, but it's in the hands of her own organisation to make this ISA offering anything but a success.

    EDIT:

MSE forum software edits out CEO emails - - why, I do not know.
The email of the Santander UK CEO is ceo ATsign santander.co.uk
