I know banks are closed on bank holidays, but just to clarify --- does this include their phone lines too? (basically i'm asking whether i'll be able to get answers to questions on Friday 6th April by telephoning, or will the lines be closed?

Santander CS told me on the phone today that they will be open on April 6th 2012. Let's see what they are open for.

I don't get why you are all going in guns and blazing (like emailing the CEO? Really?). It's not April 6th yet.

Wait until April 6th before you start complaining.

Why should I wait until April 6 2012 if I cannot make my 2011/2012 ISA contribution today? Surely April 6th is too late to raise the issue.

But that's not what your OP asks?
You CAN'T deposit new money into your Santander FRISA between 6th-14th April!!

You spoke about transferring an existing ISA 2011/2012 and subscribing with new money on 6th April?

Is it the transfer you are having problems with or the new money?

    BOTH (it seems).

I wish to transfer £17.7k of "OLD" money from Halifax into it (as is ok by their T&Cs).

They seem to have royally messed this up.

I also wish to deposit £5,640 into it on 6th April (as is ok by their T&Cs) - but their customer service team tell me i can't do this.

So it seems i have problems all ways up.

My gf is a little further on than i am with her own Halifax transfer (to Santander) & in her case the investigation is ongoing, but it seems the problem lays with Halifax for closing the account (ISA) against her instruction. The same seems to have happened to me. This has caused figures to be incorrect & then Santander said they will reject the cheque if what they receive is different to what the transfer form states.
Which is what has happened to her & it seems like mine is going the same route.

Thanks for that. Though 10th - i will be back at work & unable to do anything which is why i want auto-payment sorted without being told i can't do something the website says i can.
Scheduled payments are unlikely to be processed before Monday night anyway. If there is a way to beat the system, the best chance would be to send a real-time FP on the Friday.

Congratulations on not reading why the OP is complaining. :T

A fixed term ISA allows one deposit. This is why the OP cannot currently deposit more money in. The only time more money can be deposited is between April 6th going on for 14 days.

However the OP is complaining that he isn't given the option to transfer more. WHICH IS CORRECT.

You cannot add money into the account until April 6th. So now we've got you and the OP moaning about something that they cannot do which they shouldn't even be allowed to do!

As ssewdfsdgfjhdf (I have no idea how you made up that name so I never remember it) has said, and given you options of what to do on April 6th.

The 6th is a Bank Holiday. There is no 6th in the bank calendar. The working day called the 5th ends during Thursday evening. The next working day is 120 hours long, ends Tuesday evening, and is called the 10th. Everything that happens during that time will be dated 10th. You won't get a credit dated 6th.

I think you may have a point here. But Santander's systems can date Saturdays. 7th is not a public holiday.

This is my prediction based on experience with FP and online banking so far. After about 10pm** on Thu 5th Apr, any payments into or out of a Santander account will be dated 7th. After about 10pm on Sat 7th, payments will be dated Tues 10th.

OTOH the Lloyds group will date all transactions after from Friday to Tues 10th as the Tuesday.

So I don't think it's possible to earn interest from the 6th anyway, even if you make your payment on the 6th, it would be dated the 7th, and you would earn interest in the esaver or wherever for the 6th. I may be wrong, and Santander may consider 6-9th to all be Sundays, in which case payment on the 6th will be dated 10th.

    We'll find out in a week's time.

Hold on a minute. Surely a Faster Payment into the account will still go through any day of the year regardless of it being a Sunday or a Bank Holiday Monday? Thats my experience of FP so far. Although Santander could be different because frankly they are crap.

I've been able to sucessfully set up a transfer to go on 6th April from my ESaver to Fixed Rate ISA.

Transaction name Transfer between my accounts
Account to transfer from:09-01-28 xxxxxx - ESAVER
Account to transfer to:09-01-27 xxxxxx - FIXED RATE ISA
    Amount:£5,640.00
    Transfer to be paid on:06/04/2012

It's set up as a pending transaction to go on 6th.

Are you sure you didn't tick tr box that says close my previous account on the transfer form?

The amount will always be different to the amount put on the form because interest will be added to the transfer when the old account is closed. I dont really know why you have to put an amount on the form.
