    Just updating:

    Spent £27.68 at L!dl
    Spent £28.55 at Mr M.

I was pleased with what i got in L!dl, i came out with loads of bags full of food, but almost cried when i left Mr M with only 3 bags and had spent pretty much the same!!!

But pleased with myself as this is included in my week 1 budget, which runs from 1st-7th April. its almost the 7th now, so i am hoping that i'll be able to spend much less than my weekly budget this month, as i have had almost a week of spending nothing :money:

dear lord in heaven i shouldnt be allowed in a supermarket. my £36 shop turned into a £91 spend very ashamed. have not updated sig yet and have just transferred money out of savings to cover the diff. extra included a bottle of vodka (which i am drinking now to get over the shock) a joint of beef and the dishwasher tablets were on offer. i have more than enough food for the four of us and thankfully we are in a position to cover any extra spends if need be but thats not the point, i am on here to save money not spend it. the extra stuff didnt jump in the trolley i actually picked the items up and put them in the trolley. also a lot of the stuff i had on my list wasnt in stock so i had to buy more expensive stuff. in fact there were no labels on the shelf to reflect the cheaper items i'm sure the website made them up. rant over need to learn my lesson and send oh with the list next time, enjoy your week.

I wouldn't count the vodka as that's medicinal, the beef is full of iron and will hopefully do more than one meal and if they're the right sort, you can cut the dishwasher tablets in half. I always do and they work fine!;)

Have got two more spends to add but haven't got the heart at the moment so am eating !id! Sandwich biscuits and drinking their 27p tea instead! Cooking a whole chicken in the slow cooker for the first time so fingers crossed!:)

Re chickpeas, curry curry curry! Lush.

  • Gosh, signed up for the challenge last week and it's already 20 pages long! I have some catch up reading to do.

Only a week in and I don't think I stand a chance of meeting my budget. I've already spent £65.09 and have another order coming on Saturday which is going to be a similar amount

I know where the extra money is going though, of the £65.09 around £10 was on wine, and the shopping I'm getting delivered on Saturday has around £15 of wine on that order too. We don't really go out much so I buy wine for the house instead, but I didn't realise quite how much we were actually spending on wine :o I think last month I managed to spend so little because I used alot of freezer things up to, I've never seen my freezer looking this bare in a long time!

Just going to have to tighten the purse strings for the next shop, trying to leave it 10 days between shops so I'm hoping I won't blow the budget too much

well i have spent an extrordinary amount at t3sco today serves me right for taking two teen girls with me , its a new superstore thats opened and they wanted to have a look,
i normally do my shopping list , check it on mysuperm'rket , then get what i can from either @ldi or l!dl and then get the rest from t3sco/ sains. but for various reasons i didnt do any of that and as a consequence ive probably spent half again of my normal weekly budget :(

    so £126 / £450

is cornmeal the same as cornflour or are they two different things? im thinkng corn meal is not as fine as cornflour. DD has a recipie that needed cornmeal she mentioned it last night but we only had cornflour and i didnt think that would work, when he wakes up ill ask what it was for.

    NO - completely different!!
Definately don't substitute cornflour for cornmeal - the former is known as cornstarch in USA though. Cornmeal is more grainy and textured and you can use it instead of flour to make scone-type biscuits or (corn rather than wheat) bread or pasta.

Zepsgal - meant to mention it earlier bit I forgot. I made your chorizo and bean soup as I had all of the ingredients in and it was really nice so thankyou. The tin of pinto beans I used were best before October 10 but were fine so that was another out of date thing used.

Well I thought I'd brave Tesco's before the mad Easter rush starts, spent £49.87 after my £5 voucher was taken off, was quite happy with this as £12 was on Easter eggs for my DD's and niece (can't quite believe how expensive eggs are this year!)

Was a bit disappointed with Tesco's it was stupidly busy and they have changed the 3 for £10 on the meat. So spent £12 on some mince, a roast chicken and pork loin when it would usually cost be £10 for the 3. But have plenty to see me through another week, and in the process I picked up another voucher of £5 off on a £40 spend.

I shouldn't need any more groceries over the Easter break, so I am wishing everyone a happy Easter  I will pop back later on in the week to update.
  • FrugaLina - I too have noticed that I have less rubbish since starting this challenge even though I didn't think we wasted much food before. Our wheelie bin (emptied every 2 weeks) was only half full when I put it out this morning and it used to be full :)
