    hey everyone

NSD here today (first of the month :))

can i just ask if anyone has actually had any luck with lidls potatos?
whenever ive bought them (their cheaper own label ones, prepacked) they just ... i dunno , they just arent good. fall apart when boiling (no its not my cooking :P ) just generaly turn to mush, dont hold any shape ect, ive just given up on buying them now

Hi Kitty - I have not had much luck with L*dl's potatoes either. Have only bought 2 bags to be fair and even though the first one was okay, the second was awful - potatoes had lots of bad bits, no flavour, went to mush when cooked (so it's not just your cooking, must be mine too:rotfl::rotfl:).

Bought my 3rd bag (before coming on here used to buy just a small bag from the SM, but no more:p) from local farm shop for the same price and weight and they are so much nicer. All dirty but full of flavour - don't think I will be buying potatoes from L*dl again.

dear lord in heaven i shouldnt be allowed in a supermarket. my £36 shop turned into a £91 spend very ashamed. have not updated sig yet and have just transferred money out of savings to cover the diff. extra included a bottle of vodka (which i am drinking now to get over the shock) a joint of beef and the dishwasher tablets were on offer. i have more than enough food for the four of us and thankfully we are in a position to cover any extra spends if need be but thats not the point, i am on here to save money not spend it. the extra stuff didnt jump in the trolley i actually picked the items up and put them in the trolley. also a lot of the stuff i had on my list wasnt in stock so i had to buy more expensive stuff. in fact there were no labels on the shelf to reflect the cheaper items i'm sure the website made them up. rant over need to learn my lesson and send oh with the list next time, enjoy your week.

    Evening all :)

Have decided that i am not going to buy as much bread, as its getting STUPIDLY expensive! Surely i cant be the only person who is amazed at how expensive it is!??

I will be doing what i did a few weeks ago, which is go into Mr T's 30mins before closing time and get some baguettes whoopsied to 17p each! They do me a weeks worth of lunches each! I just cut them up into 4 portions and freeze them, then every morning i take one of of the freezer, and by lunch time its defrosted!

Also going to get as much whoopsied meat as possible too, so that'll keep my food bills down!

Spent €57.70 of April budget....not going to buy anything for at least 10 days except for milk....half litre lasts almost 2 weeks so no big spend there. Am going to use up tinned and dried fruit to empty the cupboards a little so we might be eating quite well

    baking disaster!

    1. cakes for work got burnt! (distracted by watching hairy bikers! still edible but not for work peeps, NSD turning into need to buy cakes on way to work :( will try not to spend too much on them!)
    2. my wee quiches got stuck to the bottom of the pan. so had to practically scrape them out! think i just didnt grease the pans well enough!

on plus side, i obviously had to sample the scraped out quiches' for quality to control :rotfl:and the pastry tasted quite good (as did the filling!:j)

Sending hugs Lovelife. As a fellow baker I completely understand your frustrations. At least it tastes great :)

I've been baking today too. I had both an egg and some creme fraiche to use up so after last wks success I made some more scones.

I'm making hot cross buns tomorrow. 22.5kg of flour arrived today :D So I can probably make hot cross buns for the whole of Surrey :) and still have lots left :)
