This might sound really silly but here goes ...
I have noticed at the bottom of peoples threads there is there grocery challange totals, sealed tin and second purse, can i ask what the last 2 are ?
I have joined the grocery challange this month and am constantly looking for ways to save, i have looked but cant find the threads for these - could someone please explain
Thanks
Lisa
Lisa The 2nd Purse thread derived from Mothership's 2nd Purse system which is under the useful links on post 6 of this thread. In January (I think) Linz set up a separate thread that also has a fantastic spreadsheet to help you keep track.
Also Elsiepac (who is on holiday now until 9th April) is something of a spreadsheet queen (IMHO) and if you wanted to check out her system you can click on her name against a post of hers and check back through her posts to find her link to it (mine is simpler but hers does things like stock level reviewing) - her last post was on 29th as she left for her holiday yesterday. I think it was in February
Sealed Pot is just that, a pot that is made into a money box and sealed shut for the year into which you stuff money and I believe they open them at the end of November, in time for pressie-buying for Christmas.
My personal favourite is Dundeedoll's Roadkill jar - into which she saves money picked up from the street - just loving the name! :rotfl:rising_from_the_ashes wrote: »Been up since 4 ... couldn't sleep http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=52149341&postcount=11. Awful as the joy of having the waggly tail when you come in just cannot be described and has been missed daily since I lost Ben, as well as the walks .... I love walking but just can't do it by myself (for any distance anyway). Not sure what I'm going to do with myself today .
rfta you sound really sad today. Have you considered a greyhound rescue dog? The dogs are failed or retired racing dogs that are re-homed. The advantage is that they are normally quite placid in nature and don't take long walks; more the short burst walk. My DH wants one but it needs to be a young one that refused the lure for us because the cats need to be in charge and safe.
My local rescue charity also has a collection of dogs they don't re-home because they are special needs (tear up furniture eg) and can't be re-homed but they are always short of people to walk them, feed and pay attention to them. You obviously love dogs and this would give you the contact without the cost...
I hope the 4 big shop, 9 little shop-system works for you too.

Sorry to read this Rising, what a difficult decision to make.. But keep searching. There will be the perfect companion out there for you, I know it! And try not to feel guilty. You gave the new boy a chance, but he wasnt right for you at this point.
Until about 6 years ago, I've always had dogs, but can't now. I do still walk by myself, though it's much harder to motivate myself, when there's no waggy tail and beseeching eyes.
Big hugs!

Hi, thanks for adding me already, my budget for April is remaining the same at £60 a week.
Rosieben/Zippy - On page 1, post 5, one of the links doesnt work. Its the Biscuits one- Biscuit recipes (Owens3116 thread)
Thanks to everyone for the support in March, and thanks as always to everyone who puts in the hard work necessary for the GCs!0 -
rfta, hugs. I really feel for you. A suggestion: The Cinnamon Trust is a charity that asks people to walk dogs for those no longer able to do it but who don't want to have to give up their dog - eg the housebound - might there be an idea there re getting doggie contact and doing a good turn at the same time? I know others have suggested things too and I hope you won't feel I'm patronising you, just a thought.
A Q: re 2nd purse, how do you know what items are 2nd purse in your cupboard? ie if I use a new box of T bags, they may have been bought on 2nd purse or just regular. Do you write it on the box? Keep them in a separate place? How do you stop OH just opening stuff and not letting you know that you need to pay the 2nd purse for it?!0 -
Worked out yesterday that I have approx £6 to last us till Tuesday:eek:. So things could get rather interesting here.
MIL throws away a huge amount of food and OH managed to rescue 6 sausages and a pork chop yesterday that she had got out of the freezer but then decided to go to the chippy instead. And she apparently wont eat it the day after. Crazy woman! but not complaining, think I will turn those into some sort of pasta bake for tea tonight.
Planning to spend £2 on milk today, though I have sent the OH so here's hoping he doesn't pick anything else up!Grocery Challenge Sept 2021 £95.40/£500

Spent another £19.33 in Mr A this morning but that should keep us going for the best part of the week.
I have now set up a spreadsheet and separate purse so a bit easier to keep tabs (I Hope)
Hope everyone is doing ok

I have a kitchen cupboard where I exclusively keep tins, packets, toiletries that are 2nd purse items. Fridge/freezer in the garage has the perishables in. I have told DH and the children that if they take something from either Cazco branch, they need to tell me. It's working well so far!Cross-stitch WIP: Fiver Friday challenge 2025 founding member 😊 Read 25 books in 2025 11/25 Currently reading The Cliff House by Amanda Jennings0 -
Hello everyone. I was on the debt free board because my OH just lost his job, and from my SOA people suggested we could save a lot on groceries. So, here I am!
How much should we be aiming to spend? There are two of us and we have a dog.
Since payday yesterday we've spent 55p (last of the big spenders!)0
