It is true about the petrol prices stopping going out on a sunny sunday, we rarely do that now.
It is like the alton towers tickets for free from the sun, sure they were free but we live 3/4 hours away petrol car wise and OH is now moaning rightly about how I did not factor in the petrol costs getting the tickets free, he is so right, should have done we used to go and chips at the seaside but do not so much at all now.
Woman mag is 60p today so bought it:T:T
We often joke we have been priced out of 'knife and fork' restaurants as we always seem to go to fast food places which are cheap and you do not need cutlery with:rotfl::rotfl:
Haircuts lots of people mentioned now that is a luxury I do not do as much at all, the boys have theirs cut at home with the clippers.
Clothes car boot sales or charity shops or primark.
The one thing that has helped me enormously has been waiting for the reductions in food (yellow reduced stickers) from all the supermarkets, that saves a fortune as the cost of food is so very high these days.:D0 -

Victory, you need to cast your eyes downward on the news stands (if you're buying in the supermarket.) The 'big' names will be at eye level and will have paid to be there (so that cost will be passed on to you.) If you look on the bottom shelf you'll find similar magazines from smaller publishers for 60p every week!
My own cut back:
I used to love going to the garden centre but I can't afford to do that so often. On my last trip I did buy some seeds but didn't look at the price and they turned out to be nearly £4  (Something South American and Eden-Project branded) :rotfl:Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)
December £361.54, November £322.28, October £288.52, September £374.30, August £223.95, July £71.45, June £251.22, May£119.33, April £236.24, March £106.74, Feb £40.99, Jan £98.54) Total for 2017 - £2,495.100 -
Thanks!! Sorry to hijack the thread a bit there OP! I don't know if we would ever take the pludge and go back but I plan to become either a teacher or a nurse (if I become a nurse it will be in the RAF!) next year so both will help if we do decide to go over. I know what you mean about tax and rent, his family all own their own properties but me and the BF just can't get a deposit together at the mo so they are shocked that we pay £975pcm and don't even own the place! Good thing would be if we did go over I would have a secured job in teaching as his dad is quite high up in the education sector!
Thanks again for you info!

You're welcome. I hope it all works out well too!
Another thing: a deposit for buying a house is not required here. My colleagues looked at me as though I was a mad woman when I said that I couldn't buy yet, as I needed to save a deposit!February wins: Theatre tickets0 -
Very interesting to hear the differences Euro! I *love* the holiday pay
Funny there's quite a few similarities on things people are giving up / cutting down.
I go to the student sessions at the hairdresser to get a free haircut.
Plus I learned to make lush homemade pizzas so we don't get takeaways from the local pizza pub anymore
Cutting down on these small costs means that we can still have a holiday, and go out for dinner once a month.:A :heartpuls June 2014 / £2014 in 2014 / £735.97 / 36.5%0 -

Cut back on cosmetics too with going for an asian BB cream through ebay -moisturiser,primer,concealer and foundation in one for less than £6,I pay more than double that for foundation alone!
Hmm maybe I've cut back more than I thought...

Trick is to remember what they sell at the play place i.e fruit shoots and just bring them in instead and sit far from the cafe bit]0 -
In the days when I didn't work. I'd sometimes send kids to a holiday day club so I could catch up on housework. Then I found a job and used the same holiday clubs whilst I worked. Recently I lost my job but I just think the weekly grocery shopping is so dear now that I can't justify sending kids to a club that I don't really 'need'.0

For us it's definitely going for a drive - our car is a huge luxury that we sacrifice a lot for, but OH needs it for work so we have to find a way to afford it. It used to be a real treat to go out for a drive in the evening and we found lots of lovely places, but with the price of petrol nowadays we've really had to cut back on that.0

If you go to the health and beauty money saving board there's a thread there about BB creams. The asian ones are best and the only true ones and such a bargain when you buy them! The european ones are basically renamed tinted moisturisers and much more expensive. If you pop over to the thread there are reviews, blog links etc.Well worth a lookIf women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0 -
I had to hunt around to find a MUCH cheaper brand of make up than even Maybelline and Rimmel and after hunting I found one which suits my skin much better than what I was using and it is ridiculously cheap, coupled with buying a ton of it last year in 50% sales I have not had to buy any for months, very very occasionally I will pick something up in Poundland but not often.
Toiletries, I love branded shower gels and shampoo's etc but I refuse to pay the silly prices, Tresemme are great but I only buy at £2 for a 900ml bottle. I bought around 60 shower gels last year when there were various Body Shop glitches so paid around 60p per bottle but once thy're gone that's it.
I don't buy lunch out at all any more if I do it'll be between 60p-£1 sandwich from Asda for the little dude but I will wait till I'm home. He had a Mcdonald's today for the first time in months as a treat.
When I buy clothes I buy them in the very end bargain bin style at the end of the season when they are silly prices (on the good side!) and save them by for the year after. I do this for my son's clothing too. It means I can buy him a lot of things from Next in the next size up without having to pay the huge price tag.
I hunt around for home furnishings, bedding etc on offers, I do the same with pillows, quilts, toppers etc etc so I get good brands that will last at extremely cheap prices.
I don't buy fresh flowers anymore, during the summer I cut the lillies from my garden and I have huge bouquet style lillies all summer and during the winter months I only buy if they are heavily reduced but in good contition. I got 2 bunches for 56p today and they will last a good few days and they brighten the place up.
I don't get my hair cut very often, in the last 4 years I've had it done twice. It badly needs done now but I'm still waiting it out, I want to finish off my living room furniture first.
I do most of these things purely because I have to. I can't pay the bills otherwise. I do go away on long weekends twice a year I spend around £60 each time and go to a friends house where we stay and split the cost of shopping between the 4 of us, in total I spend £100 each time so £200 per year. I need these trips, as my friends stay so far away I HAVE to do it this way otherwise we would never see each other. I also need it for my own sanity and something to look forward to in this dreary life. I can't go out unless I really really have to, I scour the web for offers when I need something, bulk buy when I can to save costs, spend a minimal amount on gifts not only for other people but my son, don't get me wrong he has plenty and is a very happy little boy but in comparison to other children he does not have the same.
