Can you reccomend a compression fitting I said solvent as there is no screw connection on the adapter but on the actual waste pipe that goes to the drain there is a screw connection.
If its captive thats part of the original P trap. If its not captive just take it off. You need a "naked end" on your waste pipe. Use the fitting I suggested in my post above. You are going to have to rework the trap to waste pipe arrangements anyway. One end on the pipe, the other on the adaptor, then the adaptor goes into the trap. Do NOT use a pushfit though which will fit the 1½" waste pipe nicely but will inevitably not seal properly on the adapter. A compression is a must.
    Don't fall out guys.
    LoL. Don't intend to.:D
U have both given me some valid advice and I'm grateful.
    Thanks.

    Cheers

Ok I was thinking of using one of these...

http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Flexi+Waste+Connector/p58975 I assume the screw connection on the other end is the compression fitting?

Blimey - Bodgitt and Scarper are definately in town!!!!

If you have to go down this route I'd use http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Plumbing/Traps+Waste/Flexi+Waste+Connector+1+12+Uni+Outlet+Uni+Outlet/d20/sd2907/p16281
(be sure to order the 1 1/2")

I believe that Key was suggesting putting the adapter in one end of this (yes - the 'screw' is indeed a compression fitting)and then connect the other end to whatever 'naked' waste pipe you have left once the old trap's been removed.

Maybe he'll describe it better - but I'm sure he'll have a better solution anyway :D

Yes this is the preffered fitting however its not long enough the longer one I linked to is better as it allows me to bend it further.

ok just add a compression coupler to the basket at the same time. Tip: go for the McAlpine fittings - far superior to the other ones available in TS.

And a tin of solvent weld.

You got any SW 40mm pipe??

Edit you might get away with using one of these though

it depends how odd the size is of the connector.

The adapter thing will not fit into the compression side of the fitting of the existing sink so I think I will have to use the adapter some how.

Indeed - the adapter should fit over the end of 'naked' 40mm pipe as Key says - hence the need for solvent weld...

Do I need a compression coupler if the end of this part http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Plumbing/Traps+Waste/Flexi+Waste+Connector+1+12/d20/sd2907/p29398 that has the compression fitting on will go on the naked end of the waste to outside drain itself? And then the other end will use solvent weld to attach to the trap adapter?

I could be wrong (Key?) but I don't think the plain end of your flexi pipe is solvent weld(able) - hence a compression connector is needed to fit over that bit and then a short piece of SW 40mm pipe with the adapter welded onto the end of it will fit the other end of the compression coupler...

Hold on - I'll go and mock up what you need and post a pic....

Why is it not solvent weldable? The type of material or something?

I havent got any pipe that I could use... so this is something else I will have to get I think if not solvent weldable... at this rate it will be cheaper to get a plumber in to come sort it.
