Spring into Summer 2012 with Slimming World

Options
Dear all, as the last thread grew so long here we have a new one. I am simply copying all that Consultant31 put in the introduction to the pre-Christmas thread for you here. There have been a few changes on SW in the past couple of months - cereal allowances have gone up slightly (but very slightly - by a gram or two, don't get too excited) and some of the Muller yogs now have syns, but the basics remain the same - eat lots and lots of healthy food and treat yourself to a few syns each day!

Food Optimising is a plan for life, it is not a quick fix and you should look at weight losses over a period of time. There are no prizes for speed of weight loss.

You need to commit to making changes to the food that you buy and how you cook it, because what you have been doing in the past has not got you to where you want to be.

You cannot use parts of the plan that suit you and forget the rest.

If you are not prepared to make a commitment to change the behaviour that has got you into your current situation then nothing is going to change, and above all things, you need to be honest and accountable for every single mouthful of food that passes your lips.

You need to care enough to take time out to pre-plan your slimming campaign. Look again at the menu plans and see the variety and volume of food you can eat. All you have to lose is the weight.
Slimming World has been successfully helping people lose weight for over forty years, so trust them and read your Food Optimising and Choose Success books again and again.

Food Optimising is easy but life isn't. Losing weight is a battle but you have the battle plan in your food optimising book, your secret weapon is free food, and that, together with your healthy extras and syns add up to a healthy way of eating that can (and should) be a life plan. Success is there waiting for you………go for it!

The Original (Red) and Green plans are still going strong but most people may well have heard of the Extra Easy plan. If you've ever wondered if it works, I promise you it does. If you've ever wondered how it works, just trust the experts at SW, they wouldn't send you on the wrong path.

If you fancy having a go at EE, here are the official 'rules' to ensure that you not only lose weight regularly but get all the nutrition your body needs to function well:-

Extra Easy:

1: Choose your Free Food

Anything that’s Free Food on Green OR Original – so that’s pasta, rice, potatoes, lean meat, poultry, fish and all the Superfree food – is totally Free on Extra Easy! Yes, you can eat unlimited meat, potatoes and veg, fish, chips and mushy peas, and chicken curry and rice with no measuring, no weighing, no counting – no kidding!

And for super-fast, super healthy results, fill one third of your plate with Superfree Food!

2: Choose your Healthy Extras

Each day select one Healthy Extra ‘a’ choice and one Healthy Extra ‘b’ choice from our simplified list of calcium and fibre-filled foods, including milk, cheese, bread and cereal.

3: Enjoy 5-15 Syns each day

And if the Syn values for Green and Original foods are different on the standard Syns lists, count the lower one!

If you find your weight loss has slowed down or stopped, check:-

1. Whether everything you're counting as Free, is Free

2. Whether you're under-estimating Syn values (over-estimate if guessing)

3. Whether you're counting everything that should be counted

4. Whether you're measuring everything that should be measured

5. Whether you're sabotaging your success in any other way (using SAS logs will help uncover individual long-term self-sabotage patterns) and, if none of these is the culprit, either...........

A: increase the proportion of Superfree Foods to half of your plate

OR

B: switch to more Speed Foods

And above all, if you follow the plan, any plan, 100% you will lose weight!

  • yup! Now where is Czerniaka? Her question about latte - I think they have sweetened milk or something in, also remember it's full fat milk they use and it is mostly milk, just a shot of espresso then the steamed milk, plus if you shake chocolate over the top, you can see how it adds up. I (Miss Perfection) keep a little tupperware tub of dried skimmed milk in my bag then when I go out I ask for an Americano and add my own milk. of course, I usually have a chocolate covered caramel slice with it ...

I have had gastric flu and am still not eating much which is not good for SW. I haven't touched any fruit or vegetables or protein since last week. So far just managing on rice and fruit teas. I don't feel as though I have lost any weight either.

Just wondering how to ease myself back into SW eating whilst being extra careful and not really feeling like eating at all. Any good ideas? Or links that might help?

Syn Values are for 25g so 3 for ordinary, 2 for light and 1.5 for extra light, so that's 24 (or 16 or 12) for the 200g tub and 75g of light can be a HEA too.

Czerniaka, you should get given a number or something at your group so that you can get onto the SW website and you'll find syns on there. Googling sometimes works. You need to ask on Saturday. I don't think you're eating too much fruit but I've heard that too many bananas and grapes can be the 'worst' fruits to eat for weightloss. The best ones are things like strawberries and grapefruit and melon which are superspeedy. These are marked SS in your book and are meant to accelerate weightloss. It applies to some veg and other things too. I tend to have an americano with a small jug of hot milk when I'm out as I've heard the horror stories about lattes and cappucinos too.

Thanks for starting the new thread b-r. I'm not going to SW tomorrow as I'm busy but I think the fish and chip supper I had tonight (with batter:o) should have got me firmly back in target range!!

Seeing as it's a shiny new thread, I can't help but hop on and say hi

    I'm 38, 5ft 5 1/2in and on May 5th last year I was 20st 1 lb. I'm now 13st 4 lb :D All thanks to SW.

I've been as heavy as 21 stone and as light as 6 stone something (I didn't look, the doctor just told my mum he wanted me to get up to 7 st). I've had a go at all sorts of diets. I usually prefere the "Go mad and starve youself silly" diet, which means the weight comes off really quickly :o Then I go on to the "stuff yourself silly with all the things you've missed" diet which puts all the weight back on again ~ Oddly enough :wall: But after getting desparate I tried SW last May.

I had heard from Taplady how sucessful and easy it was and I was getting to the point where I had to do something! And oh my god how easy is it??!! :T Never before have I coped so well, as I've just filled myself up with all the Free Food and factored in any extra's with HEA and HEB's. It's so easy, even for a frog to understand. I joined a local group and I went for several weeks but I just felt like I new what I was doing so it was a waste of time and effort. I didn't gain much from the group and tbh in just got on my nerves a bit. I felt sure I could carry on on my own so I left. Each to his own, I know others find the group invaluable.

I don't weigh weekly. It's too traumatic! I can only cope with every now and then. I usually do it every half term, or at the mo I'm seeing how much I can lose between pancake day and Easter so I weighed half way through, and will weigh again on Good Friday morning.

I had a little wobble around January as I didn't lose anything for a month. I hopped on the scales on Jan 1st and I was 14st 4lb. Then I hopped on the scales on Feb 1st and I was.... 14st 4lb  That would usually have made me binge but I just changed things around a bit. I was actually eating too much fruit ~ a serious amount I can tell you, and at least 4 yogs a day. So I cut down on the FF yog and too much fruit, and I lost 11lb in the next 3 weeks.

I won't highjack the thread too much, I'll just hop on every now and again if I may? Just wanted to let any strugglers or doubters out there know that if I can do it ~ anyone can! I was fed up, fat, and miserable, and now I'm back into my size 12's (yes, alright they are REALLY tight but I can get them on!) my bones don't ache, I don't get headaches anymore, I'm really looking forward to the summer and I feel really happy again!

I've suffered with eating dissorders since I was 14, I've lost at least 8 st 4 times, but now, thanks to SW, I really think I've got my food issues sorted. Just got to keep going ....

love how my username is ALWAYS misspelt on EVERY thread I post on ;):p (but don't worry about it! I know that as soon as you start it with CZ or CH it's about me )

now coffees: I guess I'll be trying your trick then, don't really use choc over the top but I guess all the other things in latte/mocha are too much in syns anyway... or I'll just learn to avoid starbucks all together

I was given a number and tried to register one evening but I guess there was some problem with the website then... will try again when I have some time...

fruit: I don't really like grejpfuit :( bananas are seen as a 'treat' really as being on diets my whole life long thought me rather not to touch them :o I love grapes but also heard they are 'sugary' and I can never stop with a few so won't be getting them anymore... however I can vote for them being 'superspeedy' :p
