MSE News: Budget 2012: Cigarette prices to rise tonight

There was someone from NHS this morning on news saying that the UK will be smoke free in 25 yrs because younger smokers will be priced out of smoking.. the unsaid part of the equation presumably is that the older smokers will die prematurely.
I still haven't attacked anyone on this thread personally and for the record, I haven't mentioned my sex life on this thread so anything your sordid minds conjure up is in your own heads.0 -
Actually My past weight and current health problems are as irrelevant to this thread as my bisexuality.
yep you did, and as you said it irrelevant to this thread, so why bring it up.
As I said i dont want to know you swing both ways...and there was on need to mention it in this thread.Work to live= not live to work0 -
I haven't previously attacked anyone on this thread personally. You're all entitled to your own views about smokers as am I.
I wouldn't wear perfume at home or work if I knew someone with an allergy but I don't. I've been castigated for wearing perfume and yet probably 99% of the people posting on this thread wear manufactured scents of some kind themselves so that makes you hypocrites.
Calories are a measurement of energy needed to heat a specified amount of water per degree centigrade, devised in the early 19th century. Calories don't translate well as a measure of energy produced in the human body bcause different types of food are converted by the body in various ways. Calories In > Calories Out = Weight Gain is not accurate.
Life is tough mumps and quite possibly yours is tougher than mine right now, but since you don't know me or my past you have no idea what I've had to overcome yet you sneer at me for being fat in the past despite having been fat yourself.
cooltrikerchic if you don't know the difference between even the words sexuality and sex life that's your problem not mine - and as I'm not in the closet in real life I don't have to be in the virtual world either and certainly not because you dislike bisexuals.
I think I'll leave you to your stinky smokers' fug of hypocrisy and bigotry. Smoking is a disgusting habit which the overwhelming majority of people don't support.0 -
Edwardia I did not say i dislike bisexuals, so done 'assume' that..
I am just stating that there was no need to mention your sexuality on a thread that was to discuss the impact on smokers of the 37p duty that was added in the budget...
In fact i dont know why you are 'harping' on about calories etc.. I dont care two-hoots about your weight, or your calarie intake... maybe you should go back to the thread you were discussing it on..
It is YOU.... that has brought all this on... as with other topics around the MSE boards.... the one about potential increase in lamb prices, you went OTT about being a vegetarian, and totally slated meat eaters, like you are doing with smokers on here
Your opinions are not allways right, but you allways think they are..
I honestly think this thread ..should now be over on the arms, as it has totally gone off track... its not about anti-smoking... but yet it has totally turned into that..
Or Locked.
As it is getting nowhere...Work to live= not live to work0 -
I haven't been a vegetarian since 1994 and since I eat meat myself I don't think you've even got the right poster.
And I've said before I don't think this thread belongs in groceries anyway.0 -
Life is tough mumps and quite possibly yours is tougher than mine right now, but since you don't know me or my past you have no idea what I've had to overcome yet you sneer at me for being fat in the past despite having been fat yourself.
.
I wasn't sneering at you, just pointing out that you were being judgemental about other people when you admit you were a size 22 so your lifestyle wasn't perfect. I was a size 14, given my height I don't think anyone who knows me ever described me as fat. I got a grip of my increasing weight because of an endocrine problem and managed to control it until I got a diagnosis and med ended the problem. Thanks for the concern but my life is fine, I am lucky as med controls my problems perfectly and re my husbands problems we live in a rural area and don't use public transport so not really a problem most of the time. When we lived in London it was more challenging.Sell £1500

I sat inside the pub Saturday afternoon, wearing Chanel No5 and drinking overpriced fizzy mineral water with a slice of lemon getting bored.
I had one packet of Kettle Chips this week which makes me less of a glutton than the people on here stocking up on boxes of sugary chocolate via Amazon. I wasn't overweight because I ate a lot, I was overweight because I have a misfunctioning endocrine system just like my nieces.
I didn't attack anyone on this thread personally. But actually, this is a virtual forum and I don't know the people who attacked me for not liking smelly chavvy smokers, thankfully.
Hate to point it out but I'm a pleasant goth smoker.
I also intend on eating some chocolate with my nieces and nephew tommorrow for easter sunday, crime of the century of course. :rotfl:0 -
No, it shouldn't be illegal, as the tax is good for the economy, but smoking related diseases shouldn't be treated on the NHS either.
When the NHS is reformed properly that will go a long way towards reducing spending.
Nor sexually related conditions such as AIDS, STDs and pregnancy. And neither should drink related illnesses. Smoking and drinking costs the NHS vast amounts of money, I read somewhere that over 90% of A&E admissions over the weekend were drink related. This country is sitting on a ticking time bomb with alcohol related illnesses like liver disease etc.0
