Good job you don't go to pubs then, so you don't have to put up with it there.well thats where the courtesy to others comes in
seems many need legislation to tell them what to do.....
And I presume you have a pair of legs, so you can move away from someone smoking, just as you'd move away from someone making a nuisance of themselves by shouting, or playing music too loud.
Not every smoker is an impolite w@nker, not every non smoker is a polite person either.
You should feel sorry for smokers, forced to pay higher and higher prices for something they are addicted to and is killing them.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -

The swear filter is there for a reason
just like legislation. some need blocked from things that are innapropriate for others.
I havent seen studies on the effects of passive shouting or music if Im honest.0 -

I go to Belgium once a year with OH, we buy 6kg of tobacco for approx £400.00 and that lasts us a year.
Yes I am aware the indicitive limit has been reduced to 1kg per person, but I still plan to bring back 6kg next time I go.
The " 1kg limit " is a load of rubbish put out by the UKBA
Bought in the EU , tax paid , bring home what you want not what they think you should !
Keep your receipts and dont take any b*llsh*t from them

I made comments about smokers, I didn't name individual posters. The smokers however, did that to me and to other posters I notice.
I travelled by train yesterday. I didn't have to deal with smoking around me on the platforms or on the trains. As a result of the smoking ban the platforms, waiting rooms and trains are cleaner and don't smell like kippers.
I don't see why pubs should be singled out as exceptions with smoking shelters. I don't buy the notion that without smoking shelters, pubs would go out of business. It's much more likely that they go out of business because beer is too expensive.
It's all very well for smokers to say they are considerate of others, the wind only has to change and suddenly you're enveloped in smoke. We've largely gotten rid of Public bars and Saloon bars but it certainly does seem that Wayne and Shazza Chav, their brood of kids and rottweilers take over pub gardens and intimidate others who want to enjoy the sunshine.
I hate going to pubs now, I just wanted some lunch otherwise I wouldn't have been there.0 -
Go to different pubs then, it's the landlord that chooses his customers, he chooses the way he wants to run the pub, if enough people keep away, he will change the way he runs it.We've largely gotten rid of Public bars and Saloon bars but it certainly does seem that Wayne and Shazza Chav, their brood of kids and rottweilers take over pub gardens and intimidate others who want to enjoy the sunshine.

Money chooses what happens most of the time. If the smokers are providing more money that non smokers would in the garden, is it fair to ask the LL to ban them from sitting there? Even if you think it's fair, the LL can't do it, because he can't afford it.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -

I feel the same. Since the smoking ban the pubs around here are no longer places for adults to relax and have a drink with their friends but instead have turned into some kind of mini-bistros for people to take the whole family (including the ignored screaming baby). More like a misinterpreted pub theme park from the distant future.0 -
some of these comments are a bit harsh. Probably from non smokers Im sure.
For all you smokers out there. The electronic cigarettes are amazing, im well chuffed with mine and it is about 80% cheaper than normal fags0 -
Edwardia....
What ever the topic is, you allways anti the topic...
are you some sort of wind-up merchant who just likes getting people's backs up, because no one can live the so called life you try to put across without being a boring old f@rt....
If you like the thrill of the bit, the best place for you is in the Arms... you would fit in well there.....
Anyway its the weekend so i better go and get my chavvy clothes in the wash, round up my huge mob of a family wind the dog up, and go down the pub, and play havoc in the beer garden:rotfl:Work to live= not live to work0 -
lol, yeah I can see its the non smokers whining.
you see Im not a non smoker
Im me,I simply don't smoke
I don't need some label to go with it.
you have the option to smoke or not.so deal with it
pay the money, shorten your life and deal with the rules that come in.
try and be a bit more considerate with your poisonous emissions though.
You don't have a label eh? Try bore. Us smokers pay a fair whack of tax to HMRC then we die young saving the goverment pension money. They love us really.0 -
I think this thread should get back on track....
its about how the increase in tax on a packet of fags will effect us, and what we think... its not an anti -smonking/smokers thread..
By putting more duty on cigarettes.. its only driving people to smoke rollies ( hubby smokes rollies) and buy stuff from europe... so in the long run, the government are losing out...
I know the government have got to find money from somewhere to run/ get us out of the mess we are in, BUT its hittng the people who havent got that much money to spend.., and the only treat they get is a cigarette and a pint now now and again... Not go on holidays 3 or 4 times a year, buy posh cars and go to posh resturants a few nights a week, nope the hurray Henry's will not notice the squeeze the government are putting on usWork to live= not live to work0
