This month we started off by going to the Farm shop (Haigh's Farm Shop, Mirfield, West Yorkshire)first to see what we could get. We bought a 25Kg sack of potatoes for £2.99 (saved loads making our own chips rather than oven chips), meat, fruit and veg, they also had a 6 pack of Frijj milkshakes for £1.50, 4 medium yorkshire puddings were 49p.
Thanks for telling us about Haigh's Farm Shop oueyouey :) I'm only a few miles from Mirfield so I'll have to give it a try.

I think there's also a farm shop near Ainley Top roundabout which i may also investigate.

At Haighs they do 1 Kg Mozzarella Cheese for £1.99. I cut it up into 5 pieces and froze it. Handy to use on home-made pizzas. Also found 9 bulbs of garlic for 99p.

Is there???? ... it must be relatively new then as I've not heard of it before and I've worked the farms in that area. Would be very interesting to hear who it is if you could find out please :D

Curry Queen - this is it

If you take the road past the Cedar Court Hotel follow it for a while i think there's a green sign on your right hand side that says Broster farm shop or something. If i remember rightly before you come to the Wappy Spring Pub.

Please can you tell me which other farms you have been to around here

Huddersfield market is also good for bulk buying fresh meat.

Since I joined Old Style our diet has changed considerably, I've always been able to cook but time and lifestyle had changed what we ate into a mix of packets, tins and frozen ready prepared stuff.

Over the last few weeks I hadn't noticed how much better I felt, how much more energy I had until last week fate conspired against me and I was thrown back into a week of 'convenience food'. This morning I feel awful, I woke up with a huge headache, no energy and I'm snapping at the kids again.

Roll on next week when I can start afresh.

My month ended on Saturday, I had a budget of £90 & despiite really falling off the wagon mid month I ended up spending only £85.25. I have a few store cupboard items I need to replenish on the next shopping trip but nothing major so I am fairly happy with this. However, I seriously overspent in other areas........My mantra for May is : must lean to apply discipline to all budgets, must learn to apply disciplne to all budgets, must learn to apply discipline to all budgets:rolleyes:

I have to admit that sometimes I just can't control my impluse shopping habit when in the supermarket. However, this time I did rather well. Unless you count the new breadmaker and ingredients to go with it of course. Usually I budget £100 per month, but this time it came in at £70 (or thereabouts). Have enough meat in the house for another 3 weeks (possibly longer if you count the frozen pizza toppings), so with any luck it'll be a cheap May as well.

Eeeeeek now you're asking LOL! ... coming from Dewsbury toward Huddersfield you reach a junction with traffic lights, about half a mile from the big roundabout going to J25 on the M62. There's a pub on the right ... White Hart or Horse if my memory serves me and a road that runs up the other side of it. Now whether you can get onto that road from the lights or have to go up to the roundabout to turn round I can't remember. But it's at the top of the hill round a bend on the right hand side.

I'll come back if i can remember any the details any clearer LOL!

Edit: I was close ... it's the White Gate pub ;) ... (do lovely steaks there too :D ) ... found a website here and it has directions on it :)
Just got back from Haigh's farm shop using your directions Curry_Queen, your navigation skills are spot on ;). BTW you can't turn right at those traffic lights, you have to go a little further to the roundabout and then come back on yourself to get onto the A62 (signpost Leeds) which is where the farm shop is.

For anyone close enough it's well worth a visit. My only farm shop visit before today was to one a bit closer to Wakefield, and although it was lovely shop it was ridiculously expensive . But Haighs had bargains all over the place and even their normal priced goods were cheaper than similar items from the supermarket. I can't comment on taste yet (apart from a half price manchester tart  ) but for everything else Haigh farm shop gets a ten out of ten from me.
