I'm halfway through the 'very tight' month and I've menu planned as much as I can. I've got meals up until next friday, which is when hubby gets paid. I have £12 (£17 if I can get hubby to only have £5 pocket money next week!).

The freezer and fridge are starting to look really bare, though. I've made some flapjack for kinders for school...any ideas about what I can use for savoury snacks when the crisps run out? I thought about cheese straws or popcorn???

    Roll on next friday...... :o

Sounds good to me. I've got a recipe for cheese straws in my trusty Be-Ro book if you need one.

What about toasted soldiers with bovril? {or, yuk, marmite}. Toast one side of a whole slice, then coat the other with the savoury of your choice, toast it, then chop into fingers.

Hang on while I dash downstairs for my trusty Be-Ro book...

    ...

    <pant>

    Ingredients:

    100g 4oz Be-Ro self raising flour
    pinch salt
    pinch mustard powder
    50g 2oz margarine
    75g 30z Cheese, grated
    1 egg, size 3, beaten

    Destructions:

heat oven to gas mark 4 that's 180C or 350F

mix together flour, salt, and mustard; then rub in the margarine.

Stir in the cheese and then add sufficient egg to make a stiff dough

Roll out very thinly and cut into thin strips. (Cut a few rings if wished)

Place on a baking tray and bake for 10-15 minutes.

The Be-Ro book is very useful. I can't remember where their website is but I do remember that the book is only £1.25...

I'm really struggling with this challenge. I'm paid cash weekly so my plan was to use it for our pocket money and shopping. That way I don't need to go to the bank at all. Because I don't drive I have to wait for hubby, but when he gets inside a supermarket he goes mad and wants to buy everything. I've tried shopping on fridays, that's his day off so I say, "drop me at tesco, pick up kids and come back to pick me up, it'll save time" But he just says "oh we're not doing anything else so lets leave early and I'll come with you"
