  • Think I need to revisit my list too. I did finish a few bracelets this evening and did some hair grips this morning. I've not been able to sit much over the last few days so I've been limited with what I can do. I have been advertising a lot. I discovered if you sign up to the search engine Bing to do the pay per click advertising, you get £30 free to get you started. It took some brain action working it all out though!

Well after some stressful late nights getting everything ready for the craft fair on Monday - I made one sale for £4! My friend made one for £12.

It hadn't been well advertised so only about 10 people turned up which was very disappointing. Due to this though the organiser did not charge for the tables as originally planned so we are trying not to be too down and look at it as good practice ready for the next one.

Fingers crossed for the one on Sunday being better! :D

  • Sorry I've not been around. I've been really busy but also in pain, so everything is doubly hard! I've been on with making lots of new products, like hanging plaques, hair slides, bracelets and yet more cushions! My list has gone out of the window! I do feel like I've finished a lot of outstanding things though and I must share my Dream plaque because I love it! The frame is made with painted lolly sticks!

Tonight I have started embroidering a tea towel (something else I've been meaning to do for months!). Never done it before so not sure how it will turn out. I've also tried 2 new styles of cushion cover. One fastens with a button and elastic (hair bobble cut in half) and the other is made from one square, hemmed, and each corner folded into the middle, with the last corner being the one that opens and closes. I'm not sure if that makes any sense but I'll post a pic when I'm done. It's supposed to be the easiest way ever to make a cushion cover, but I managed to mess up the first so will start again.
    Hopefully I'll be back soon!

Hi Devine, well done for still getting things finished despite the pain :T

Can't see photos from work computer but will check out your pic tonight, sounds good :)

Another disastrous craft fair yesterday - as quiet as the last one and only 2 sales :(

My friend and I are thinking if craft fairs we're thinking of going to are regular events rather than one offs then we may go to the one before the one we're thinking booking to try to get a feel for how busy they will actually be.

SD your dream plaque is fabbydabbyabbulous :D I Love it so much!!!! Well done you! and to keep your crafting going when you are in so much pain as well - I hope its helping you to deal with the pain at least a little - i know it helps me to still feel productive and helps to keep my mind a bit more positive as well!

Beccie - OH NOOOOOOOOOO! 2 poor craft fairs in a row and your first ones as well!!!! You must be feeling a bit disheartened :( Its very frustrating when its just not been well advertised!!!!! I think the problem at the minute is craft fairs are popping up all over the place which is grand, but they are being run by a lot of people with no experience whatsoever in the organising side. My advice is to try and get talking to other crafters in your area and ask them for recommended fairs to attend. I also find ones organised by larger charities such as Action Cancer or Barnardos are pretty good to find out about as these organisations have been running them for years!

Another tip i would say is to look out for church run fairs - ones that are run regularly but maybe only once or twice a year - these tend to be well supported (in my experience anyway!)

Wish i could help more with recommending fairs but i only know about ones in Ireland (and even those i'm out of the loop with a bit too!) Anyway hope thats useful info for you! xxxxx

Re my own crafting - its not been going too well really.......same old story bits of this and that done but nothing much finished :( I am starting to panic a bit now because i have a fair to go to on Saturday!!

I am going to do a wee stock list (too wee at the minute!!) and hopefully i will come across more bits and bobs i have actually finished while i am going through things!

I am trying to think of quick makes to do and have a couple of ideas but i'm not used to doing quick things in wool or fabric tbh (though sewing will be a quicker option for me i think!!) I have always made Jewellery in the past and am used to being able to fire together 10 or 20 items in a day!!!!! hahahaha! soooooo not happening for me right now.

Anyway head down - i hope to get a baby blanket finished today! Will let you know how i get on! And will add my stocklist later too!

    Ahhhhhhhh! Panic panic!!! :rotfl::rotfl:

  • What an interesting and inspiring thread, can I please join you?

I started a new challenge on Saturday, I've recently given up my job (I was working 70+hrs per week for some of the UK's leading cross stitch publications as a commissions stitcher) and would like to make myself an income, or at least decrease our mortgage by crafting. I have so much crafting stash hidden away in the cupboards of my house, on its own, its pretty worthless, but made into pretties? Who knows?

My biggest issue with crafting is the constant spending I seem to get tempted into, a bag of buttons here, ribbons, fabric, wool.....etc etc. So I gave myself a gift of £5, this wouldnt go very far, so I need to use it to make money, then I can spend the money I make, hopefully use it to make more money and so on!

I've set myself up with a ledger and a seperate savings account online so I can keep things tracked and seperate from the household budget, it will be interesting to see what profit I can make, whilst having lots of creative fun x

Today I am mostly knitting little characters inspired by the Zingy EDF advert, my friends and family have gone mad for them, I need to knit and make up 22, so far i'm on number 10:D

Well, after joining this thread at the start, I might finally have something to add :j

Not today though, will be Saturday :rotfl: I've signed myself up for a Make your own cushion workshop, just need to take fabric and buttons or a zipper. Taking buttons, cos I have some at home. I was going to use fabric that I have at home, but DH want's me to make new cushion covers for the living room, so I think we will go out this week and buy fabric, enough for me to make 4 covers (one made at the workshop, the rest eventually at home)

Check me out, actually doing something I said I wanted to do :rotfl::T:j
Can't think of anything smart to put here...

Got a craft fair on saturday. Hopefully it will be a success. Been busy doing jubilee bunting for people and just finished a happy birthday bunting. I'm now working on bunting for the Olympics. Not sure how to upload photos on here so heres a link to my facebook page with the photo on it. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.185535854857396.44212.185531274857854&type=3#!/photo.php?fbid=324773924266921&set=a.185535854857396.44212.185531274857854&type=3&theater

  • This looks like a thread after my own heart!

I do knitting and crochet. Although not so much at the minute as we're re-decorating so it's all packed away!

I only have three projects on the go at the minute, one knitted blanket and two crochet blankets.

The knitted one is part of that "The Art Of Knitting" magazine. I subscribed to it years ago but quit after the first blanket, so didn't get the second one. I gave that blanket to my mum as a gift and re-subscribed to get the complete set. (yes a huuuge waste of money but it's too late to cancel now i'm almost half way through!).

I have thought about selling what I make to fund my hobby/habit, but selling them isn't as easy as i thought!
