Well my lovely next door neighbour sat for an hour with me today and showed me how to knit :j

Oh it's so much fun! Done about 50 stitches and I've done about 10 rows so far, so much slower than my teacher lol
Can't think of anything smart to put here...
  • Hi razorblade kisses and welcome. I visit craftsforum.co.uk from time to time and they're lovely over there. Other than that I've found many crafting groups on Facebook are great places to go, such as Supermums Craft Fair and Mums Who Make and countless others.

Fairy - congrats on the Facebook sale. Doesn't it fill you with hope when that happens?! Makes it all worthwhile.

I just popped in to show the photo of the skirt I made. I'm really pleased with it. All I did was sew the lining to the outer fabric at the top and bottom, then sewed a line about 2.5" down from the top which is the waistband. Then I brought the edges together to make the skirt shape, inserted elastic into the waist band and sewed it all up. I have no idea if that makes any sense! It was super easy though and only took a couple of hours work. Not bad to say I hand sewed it!

I also finished another plaque last night. Think I may be addicted to them!

    Happy crafting folks! xx

  • Thanks ever so much, fairyclicks! Have posted on there. Also put some details on craftsforum.co.uk and stallfinder.co.uk. Had a couple of enquiries but absolutely no idea where from as they came in on my e-mail.

You guys are making some lovely things on here. I love browsing and seeing what everyone else is making. I love the sewn pieces especially because I can't sew for toffee and I always envy people who can.

Sorry if this is on the wrong page :(

Does anyone use any of the above websites? If so, please could I have a little advice? Does it work like Ebay with regards to listing fees/selling fees? And also how does the postage side work?

    Thanks in advance :T
  • I have also been knitting these and have sold some on Ebay, but now I've been advised that there might be a problem with copyright. I don't know if I should worry about this. Any thoughts?
  • I've started 3 cushion covers... need fabric scissors so it's easier to cut the fabric before i can finish them, and need velcro for one as it's a rectangle shape. will post photos when i'm finished :) have also made a draught excluder as requested by a friend!

I do cross stitch and knitting as a hobby. Could do with making money at it. Question is...what sells? Also i'm a beginner level knitted even tho i been doing it on n off for years. I can knit and purl but sometimes lose/gain stitches and dunno how to do this on purpose!?! Any tips v welcome. I also used to do calligraphy years ago....even did my own wedding invites. Any market for this?
  • Just to answer a few questions posted.

The plaque is made with wooden letters and lolly sticks. Oh and a very large amount of patience!

Copy right products - indeed you can get into trouble for making and selling something another company has designed and the edf character will be governed by copy right law. We're not talking a slap on the wrist trouble either as companies such as Disney have been known to take small fry to court over such matters. Another common one is Taggies. You cannot sell an item called a Taggie as it is a registered trademark. I for one only sell things made with branded goods if I have permission from the relevant company and I have worked very hard to get it.

The question about what sells. You will only find out by researching, which is the first stage of starting a business. Different things sell in different places. I know zilch about knitting!

The question about Etsy and Folksy. I have briefly got involved with these sites but I found that not much sells. I could be wrong though. The fees are very much the same system as on Ebay and the postage is also the same. They just have a different market which does work for some, but they're not for me.

I think that's it! Welcome to new people x

Morning all, I've revently registered on etsy, folksy and eBay. In my opinion eBay seem to have a much larger audience than the other two. There is also misi but I'm not sure how great it is. There is a site called Create where you can sell your craft items. I think you get a month or so free (I think they are flexible and will extend the trial). After that you have to pay a small fee each month.
