  • OK, how do I change the channel on the minipci card? I know how to do it on my new modem/router. (Now installed and running well). Seems the laptop's connection is a bit slow.

If you change the channel on your router the minipci (or any adapter for that matter) shoud automatically set itself to that channel the moment you connect to the network.

Oh, that's right! I forgot to add that I'm running on 512MBs ram, too. I got around the sound problem by using a set of spare dell speakers I had lying around. Settings won't make up for the fact that the inbuilt speakers are total pants. They are small and tiny, and no amount of B/T messing is going to make it much better.

If you want to try fiddling with the audio settings, winamp is a good way to go. The graphic equaliser gives you a bit more room to mess around.

Well that saved me an hour or two fiddlefcuking with the settings!! :p

OK Guys, I have missed this thread, lol.

I received my wireless mini PCI card today from ebuyer and the antennas from ebay yesterday and was looking forward to some internal wi-fi action but it didnt go quite as planned. All installed sweet with latest drivers and it connected straight away. All seemed fine until I started to stray away from the room with the wireless router in.
Dispite it still recording full signal strength the Data rate was dropping as low as 1Mbps (so dispite it looking fine it was suffering behind the scenes) I have tried different config's of the antennas within the housing and it still cant match the Bellin PC card I had before (That wouldnt drop from 54Mbps anywhere within my apartment)

You peeps that have done the internal job......whats your feedback now after youve had time to play?

    Regards

OK, having further fiddled with my antennae, I think I may have come up with a solution to your problem. My signal was dropping from 54Mbps to 11Mbps. Turns out it was down to the positions of my antennae in my laptop (well, 1 of them). I've now got my main antenna under the right hand speaker and the aux one under the HDD bay. My transfer speed hasn't dropped since, regardless of where I am in my house. Give it a go, it could well be that.

Cheers for that but I actually tried the antennas coming straight out of the laptop and hanging over the monitor but it was still nowhere near as reliable or as fast as a PC Card (so the position clearly wasnt an issue, for me anyway)

Let us know how you get on over the next few days!!!!!!

  • Anyone spotted the Bios update on the PB website?

OK, I've never updated the bios before. How do I do it?

According to PB, you could have your antennae connected round the wrong way. PB suggest that you reverse the connections on the minipci card and see if that helps. If you can't be bothered reversing the antennae, there's a PB patch to help with the problem. I've patched mine.

Regarding the PB BIOS Update, does anyone know what this update actually does?

The technical notes just don't give anything away.

Unless there's a specific problem with your machine that can be resolved by a BIOS update, you should NOT update it. With any BIOS update, there is a small chance of the update failing - and this can mean you will need a new motherboard.

The general rule is, you only update it if you absolutely have to. It's simply not worth the risk otherwise.

I'm not overly keen on the current bios controls - you can't change much of anything! No idea what the new Bios update's for, as it doesn't really say. Looks like it's a preliminary release, anyway, as the link is dead.

Have you noticed http://support.packardbell.com/uk/mypc/?PibItemNr=topic_02180&PibItemParent=platform_Lynx_K8 It only shows one antenna when factory installed!

Also it would seem that all the patch does is swap the 'Aux' and 'Main' on the card without swapping the wires.

I wonder why they only use the one wire, how strange!

How has it been over the last few days???? Any drop outs, speed drops?

It's been fine since I moved the antennae and patched it. No drop outs or speed drops at all. I did notice that the pic on the website showed only one antenna! The laptop's been fine in all ways.
