which dvd blank cds do i buy for this laptop + or - i dont have a clue any 1 can help me
It depends what you want to do. To make movies you can play in a regular DVD player, get DVD-R, they are the most compatible with normal DVD players(and they are also the cheapest). If you are using it for backups, I'd get DVD+RW.

    Hope this helps.

    a) Is the fan running, "normal" based on the above?

    b) If it's "normal", can I do anything to stop it? (i.e. will removing the junk help)?

    c) If it's not "normal", is this likely to cook/screw up the laptop long term?
    a) Yes, it's normal. Mobile processors run at lower speeds when they are not being used to full capacity, and the fan kicks in for extra cooling when they are working hard at full speed. They are designed to run quite hot, and AMD tends to run a little hotter than Intel. Shouldn't be a problem.

    b) Removing the junk will help a little, as it will mean less software running in the background. But like I said, it's nothing to be concerned about. Just don't leave your laptop running unattended on a cloth / flammable surface (always a good practice to follow).

    Hope this helps.

It helps a great deal. :)

Elevating the !!!!!! (hinge) end approx 1-1/2" helped a lot and means the air intake is actually cool, and only the "exhaust" air is hot. :)

It's very easy to install. You literally just line it up with the slot (making sure you've got it round the right way, as it will only go in one way!), then slot it in. You may have to give it a good push, but it will go in and the clips on either side will hold it in place.

You have to force it a bit. Ease it off clip by clip, as it's held down by 4-6 clips. Work your way around until all the clips are out. I've had mine off twice now (once to install the ram, and just now to remove it again as the laptop's going back to be replaced). You'll also have to force it back on one clip at a time, too.

Thanks for the advice m8. I'm decorating today but as soon as I get a few minutes spare I'll give it another go. :)

BTW for anyone who is looking for advice on installing their extra RAM you can find details along with pictures in the PB documentation program (on the start/programs menu)...(from my rather dodgy memory) after the program starts look at the menu at the top left (called something like "exploring my new PC") and select the entry describing Hard Drives and other Hardware. Scroll down until it talks about memory and you'll find a hyperlink there which takes you to a page that shows exactly how to upgrade the mem. No advice on getting the tight panel off other than undoing the screws but it is populated with plenty of helpful pictures at salient positions.
  • How hard do you think it will be to install the antennae? Judging by the pics on that auction, you have to take the laptop apart! You obviously connect one end of each antenna to the pci card, but where do you put the other ends?
