There is no point in keeping it. If you ever came to sell the laptop just run a clean install and job done. Why take up space on a needless partition? Youve only got 40gig to play with in the first place.
Because the person who buys it may not have a Windows CD - so if something went wrong, they'd have no way to restore the system. And 30 gig is plenty for most people, especially as this isnt a games machine - besides, if he did end up needing more space he could always delete the partition later.

seen same person having sold one on ebay- now got another

so did it fall thro' or did he get 2 ?

    ----

How hot does everyone's get on their lap ? - my fan does kick in but not very often

It gets alot hotter than My current (old Dell) , and my previous Sony Vaio - only got this hot just before it died?

    ----

Anyone seen the other model at £499 - Celeron with built in wireless
    PACKARD BELL E2310
    Product Code - 184518

would that be a better buy than Ours ( if we had paid full price ) ?

there is the option to copy the backup partition to cds/dvd (i.e make a restore disc)and then free up the space on the hd that was being taken, can't remember how i did it cos i formatted my hard drive after makingmy restore disc.

These 2 laptops will probably go for substantially lower than £580 though so still a bargain if someone really wants one!

I think it's first come first served, even if someone were to order loads and loads they still have to go round the country picking them all up!!!

PC World were on the ball with this one. If they spotted the same name and phone number reserving more than one laptop, they refused to sell more than one to that person (CS were watching the collect@store orders as they came in and contacted stores directly if anyone showed up as ordering more than one. I was in Ipswich when they called someone to cancel for this very reason). If someone managed to buy more than one, they were very lucky.

Right, I've booted using my XP Home CD, deleted the partitions (and did a quick format) and installed a fresh XP, however when I startup my laptop now it asksk me to choose from one of two Windows XP Home Installations?! How can I get rid of one of them? Will I need to reformat?
  • Sounds like you didn't delete the partitions, Gibson. You've managed to set up a dual boot. You'll need to do it again, making sure you delete both partitions first.

I did actually delete both partitions, and then installed Win XP Home onto the only partition available, how strange :(

That's most odd. No idea, then. :(

Just gone through the process again, this time not using the quick format option, and all seems well :)

    Thanks
