I had a look around Oxfam shop, and the specialist bookshop yesterday, there was nothing I fancied in the Oxfam shop, well there was, it was the Hornsea Fleur flour, tea, coffee, and sugar jars with lids, but I wouldn't be able to carry them back on the train.

You've got to be a bit careful with Hornsea storage jars, as very often the rubber sealing ring around the lid has perished or dried out, and is no longer a proper airtight fit.

A red and white dotty chiffon top for £1, a warehouse black and white blouse for £3 and a pair of Zara flowery print skinny trousers for £1 from Clan Aberdeen. I'm most impressed with the trousers, they're lovely :-)

Skinny trousers are lovely... until you try to take them off! :rotfl:

2 M&S shirts for £1 in the Age UK shop in Dewsbury for my dad, if I visit Dewsbury this is the first chazza I look in as most things are £1, I just wish that they as well as other chazza's would get more plus stuff in, I know I have donated bagfulls of stuff before & got thanked for it by the manager she said they loads of requests for plus sizes.

But I did overheard in one of the big chain ones think it was BHF the manager (I think it was as she seemed to telling the others what to do) telling a volunteer after a larger lady dropped off a bag of donations if its over an 18 put it in the rag as we can't sell much plus stuff.

I would disagree & I asked my friend who volunteers at a BHF shop in another town if this was policy & he said something like its upto the manager which did seem odd, so not sure if a policy or not.

Spooky, I was in Age UK shop in Dewsbury today also!, it's a shame it's not better presented, and it's a bit tatty at times.

Edit: in a new shop I found (a wildlife charity) there were two turquoise chenille throws, priced at £2.49 (I'm assuming each, but one didn't have a sticker on) and I dithered and wondered if I really did need them. I've decided I do, and so am going back for them today. There was also a lovely dark green Amanda Wakeley evening dress for £4.99 there too.

Were the throws still there when you went back?? If ever I dither about something and then go back the blooming' things have always been sold! :o

Thanks for the tip!, I often see Hornsea or Denby in the charity shop.

I went to the local hospice charity shop today, and bought Memento on DVD for £1, when I got it home, the disc is a bit scratched and it's had a couple of wobbles whilst watching it. I also bought a hardback copy of the modern rewriting of Northanger Abbey by Val McDermid for 75p. The pages are quite tanned, and there are a couple of nicks to the inner pages, but 75p isn't bad for the book.

I went to Cancer Research shop, and persuaded myself not to buy two books from there, at £1.50 each (!), I decided it was too much to pay for a second hand book, and I wasn't that fussed about reading them. When I got home, I looked up the online library catalogue, and one of the books is available at another library, so it's no bad thing that I didn't buy it.

A local Cancer Research shop recently had a whole module full of clothes all donated by a local slimming group (mostly in 'before' sizes), so perhaps you could suggest a local shop does something similar.

Well, I 'did' all the charity shops in one of our nearest big cities yesterday and was gob-smacked at the prices.

£8.99 for dresses, not even the more up-market labels.

    I bought nothing.

I hope they were the bigger chains as they are quick to rotate stock to less busy branches with more sensible pricing policies!

It seemed to be across the board really.

Oxfam (nice Mantaray summer dress £6.99)
    Shelter
Save the Children (prices weren't too bad in here but still £5.00 for a dress)
    Lighthouse
    Cancer Research
    PDSA
    British Heart Foundation
Cat Protection - this had had a refit since I was last there, prices much higher than previous visits, Jack Reacher paperback £3.99 )

I find Sense, The Children's Society and Scope to be much more reasonably priced.
