You just brought back a memory! I used to go to Nuffield school, a long time ago... I'm sure I remember going to something sale-eye in a big house that was to do with Sue Ryder.

On the bargain front I got a pretty Fat Face blouse for my fast growing munchkin for £1 in a chazzer near my in-laws. Did quite well at an NCT sale at the weekend too.

The sales are held every three weeks in the grounds of a gothic mansion called Joyce Grove in the village of Nettlebed (not far from Henley on Thames in South Oxfordshire). I think it was the childhood home of the Bond author, Ian Fleming, and it was bequeathed to the Sue Ryder Trust who ran it as a hospice for many years. There are rumours that the sales will have to move from there soon (or close altogether, yikes!) as the house is being sold, but for the time being I have a whale of a time visiting three or four times a year. I've never been disappointed.

A blog post (not mine) describes it here :

Thanks for the posting! I've diarised dates over the summer and aim to combine it with a day out / weekend away, west of the M25 :)

Middleson wrapped round it & purring like a cat.
Shrug. The next stunning bag will be Mine...

Not all charity shops can sell electrical items - middleson might not be a sellable item as would you buy a used kidney from a charity shop?!

A bit harsh! Freecycle is still an option, I'd have him and it would save me the trauma of adoption :)

Instead, the trauma of a demanding teenager who eats like a working horse & has expensive/discerning tastes?

He's emphatically not a Charity Shop Bargain for food or shoeing!

Nah! I'd have picked him up, assessed the running costs and put him back on the shelf. :D

I had 5 mins to kill prior to school pick up so of course I popped in the cs. I managed to nab an immaculate super dry cream jumper for dd. I will wash it tonight and then she can wear it for none uniform day tomorrow with a pair of jeans. Note to self don't pop into charity shops if you don't want to spend money

Had a quick look around with my mom in Worcester today. St Richards Hospice I managed to pick up some Gola 'Liberty' print trainers in my size (7) for £8!! These are still on sale in some places for the RRP at £70!... and even better... they are brand new!

I will look good at 'keep fit' as my mother calls it...

CJ would it be too cheeky to ask you to copy me in on your hints and tips on the Nettlebed sales? I don't live far away and have thought about going but the thought of the crowds have put me off!! Feeble I know!

I've been regularly popping in to the charity shops as ever, being an addict nothing can keep me away, but I've found nothing at all this year! Lovely to hear of all your bargains but desperately hoping it will be my turn soon!
