My husband spotted a huge Tonka Mighty Dumper truck, in it's box, brand new for £4.50 so we bought it for my grandsons who love this sort of thing. Turns out it is actually pretty old, maybe 25 years old and unplayed with. A bit sad really. It had obviously been in someone's loft or somewhere and never even opened. It had some dust on it but, being an outdoor toy really, it should have had mud on it to show it had been played with. Anyway, I have dusted it off and can't wait for my grandson to come round on Friday to play with it.
Looked it up on Ebay, I could have sold it for a reasonable profit but I think toys should be played with.
I am going to give it a name too, not sure what yet, but I am sure it will be happy to be useful and have two little boys "caring for" it. LOL.A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

Perhaps the former owner had done what some neighbours of mine did. When they were moving house recently they went up to clear the attic and found several toys they'd bought their kids for Christmas, hidden away and then forgotten about.
As the presents were bought around 1970 and the "kids" are now in their 50s they weren't needed anymore so went to a charity shop.0 -

Oh my goodness. I've visions of the poor truck having led a nice, quiet life and getting terrorised (have you seen Toy Story 3 :rotfl:). I'd check it out on ebay 1st - could be worth a fair bit and you could sell it and buy a cheaper one and still be in profit?
LOL, I won't let it be terrorised. I have fallen in love with it myself. I did look on Ebay and I think I would make a profit but it is so nice I want to keep it here for my grandsons and we have another little grandson due in January so it will be kept in use for years, I am sure.0 -

Yes, I wondered if maybe that was the case.
My husband has just been in the loft to take down the presents I have been buying as bargains all year for my grandchildren. He came across a couple of presents from two years ago - before I thought to use a Christmas app to keep track. It is easily done.0 -

Must agree with this. My local BHF is too pricey. Cancer Research UK is better, and a local Christian Aid shop seems best of all.
I've become quite the avid CS shopper of late (inspiration from this thread, I think). I now almost always think "Hmm can almost certainly find something cheaper in the CS shop" before buying anything (except underwear, spent a ludicrous amount on new ones at Debenhams the other day).
Does that mean I'm turning into Scrooge?0 -
