A little off topic but I wanted a moan:

Dropped of 3 bags of stuff at local CS today. Person behind the counter didn't smile, didn't say thank you, just barked at me whether I did Gift Aid.

I'm not expecting them to fall at my feet but with the 'donations urgently wanted' sign in the window a thank you wouldn't have gone amiss.

This happened to me a few days ago. I took two huge bags to the local hospice shop. No thank you, nothing not even a smile. It really annoyed me. No need for it.

Glad it's not just me then. You'd have thought people working in charity shops would be .........charitable.;)
  • I find that as well, and also at our local PDSA any time you walk past it in the morning, you can be sure 3 volunteers will be outside the front of the shop smoking.

If they are out there smoking, who is inside serving? I don't go in there anymore because they never say thankyou. I don't expect gushing thanks, but a simple thankyou, and perhaps a smile :)

Must admit staff at my local Sue Ryder are always very appreciative & as they are just round the corner they are usually the first to receive any donations from me.
I would be really miffed too if the staff cannot be bothered to be polite & thankful & take my donations elsewhere
Not been in any CS since getting DGD's halloween outfit - going by her Facebook pictures it was a success!
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle
  • Hit paydirt at the local Scout jumble sale last weekend, 18 items of clothing at 30p each.

Picked up a number of Asian suits (tunics and trousers) that I will sell on for charity, and several new tops and trousers for me, including a heinous ruffled asymmetric skirt in brown moleskin, which is destined to be a bellydance costume.

Also three bone handle knives, a pyrex jug and a white porcelain gravy jug originally from John Lwis.

Wish it ran more than once a year!
  • Yesterday I found some Gerry Weber Roxy fit slim leg jeans. I paid £4 for them in the MIND shop - they look new. It was only when I Googled them I realised how expensive they are. £95 on the John Lewis website!!

Unfortunately your experience seems to be all to common. Why, when all charity shops seem to be crying out for donations are they so rude. I've decided now that if I take a donation to a shop and I am met with this attitude I will say "sorry I've changed my mind, I'll take it somewhere where they are glad to receive it.
Also on another annoying matter, prices. I went into a charity shop this week and saw a tablet case with a photographic print of dogs on the outside. It was £3.99 and from Primark and as I thought it was a bit pricey and I had no change I left it. A little later I went into Primark and just thought I would look to see if they had anything similar. I found the exact same one priced at £4.00, 1p more than the used charity shop one! It was a British heart foundation shop and their prices are getting stupid.

Really pleased with today's purchases. I bought two pairs of cord trousers for myself, like new, for £5.90.

My husband spotted a huge Tonka Mighty Dumper truck, in it's box, brand new for £4.50 so we bought it for my grandsons who love this sort of thing. Turns out it is actually pretty old, maybe 25 years old and unplayed with. A bit sad really. It had obviously been in someone's loft or somewhere and never even opened. It had some dust on it but, being an outdoor toy really, it should have had mud on it to show it had been played with. Anyway, I have dusted it off and can't wait for my grandson to come round on Friday to play with it.

Looked it up on Ebay, I could have sold it for a reasonable profit but I think toys should be played with.

I am going to give it a name too, not sure what yet, but I am sure it will be happy to be useful and have two little boys "caring for" it. LOL.
