My localish charity shops seem to be getting more and more expensive. Having said that I found the Demelza (a local hospice shop) far more reasonable and got a lovely tunic top for £3. Most of the mainline shops ie: Oxfam, Scope etc are asking £6/£7 per top even Primark stuff!!

I rarely shop in the national chains now. Oxfam, BHF, Barnardos etc. are getting greedy. If the smaller local ones can charge lower prices then it's nonsense that the larger ones need to be so expensive! I'm sorry but £6.99 for a second hand, well-worn M&S synthetic jumper is a joke.

I went in the BHF furniture shop looking for a tiny desk for my spare bedroom (less than 1m square) and the cheapest, ugliest one in there was £35!!!! Found a new, sturdier one in Argos for £12.99.

I have to agree. I tend to use a local shop that supports a school for disabled children. There they price things reasonably and reduce things week on week if they don't sell straight away. That's where I take stuff too as they aren't greedy.

What I find amazing is that the chains expect to sell well worn tat from places like Primark, Matalan, Asda and Sainsbury's for the much the same price as expensive brands.

I'm buying nothing new (or even second hand;)) until I've had a sort through my wardrobe.

Got a lovely Eastex tartan pleated skirt for DGD for £2.75 - I'll shorten it for her as she wants to go to a Halloween party as a Zombie Schoolgirl!! I also managed a paperback for £1.00 and a super raspberry pink suitcase with retractable handle for £6.99 - I'll be able to see that on the carousel :) Just a shame I can't take the one I bought in TKM back!!

Agree about the national chains getting a bit silly with prices. I tend to stick to the local hospice shop and the community shop now. Having said that I haven't found anything for the last couple of weeks.....til today!

Got a pair of, good as new, Slazenger ladies walking sandals for £3.

An Expro, hard shell camera case for 25p, (selling for £5.99 on Amazon).

A mosquito repellant, Fat Face big scarf/wraparound thingy for £1.

And all just in time for my forthcoming holibob :j

Bought a three quarter length winter coat in dark grey for £1.99 today. It's in excellent condition and the material is 80% wool so it should keep me warm.
  • Some great bargains on this thread! TudorRose, that wool coat for £1.99 is amazing, and grey is so this season :T

Today I bought a rather nice Tommy Hilfiger ladies rugby shirt in light and dark pink and white stripes, just a pound :)

The local hospice shop had a pair of brand new boxed leather boots for sale at £50  The tag price was £120 but I've never heard of the brand and don't remember it. I feel they will struggle to sell them!

I'm currently wearing a lovely fuchsia (sp?) bum length jacket bought from Arthritis Concern.
Not a mega-bargain at £5.25 but it fits perfectly and can be dressy or dressed down.
Wearing it with jeggings, tunic & short suede boots for a few drinks round town.

meant to say this is a Per Una Jacket.
