I went into Cancer Research in West Bridgford the other week - the shop's just been refurbed and they've got some very nice stuff in there. I got a Hollister polo shirt for a fiver - the same one is going for £35 online! It's a men's one but it doesn't look too masculine and fits lovely.

not a charity shop but a fantastic fete where the proceeds went to charity. I got

3 Stellar 3000 saucepans (2 with lids) for £3 the set
a WeightWwatchers set of digital kitchen scales for £1.50 (£39.95 on WW website)
a Kenwood food processor & some accessories for £5
2 large stainless steel trivets for £1 each
various stainless steel kitchen tools - ladle, slotted spoon & a couple of others for £1 the bundle.
2 large glass bottles (like old sweetie jars but larger) with coiled woven raffia-type-material lids for £1 each
2 pairs of curtain-drawers for £1 - ideal for my mum to keep her new & pastel coloured curtains clean
a large ornate frame for 50p
2 tubs of marmande tomatoes for £2
2 round cucumbers (cross between melon & cucumber?) for £1
a plate of delicious mixed scones for £1
2 books from my favourite author for 50p each
2 large Bennetton square chambray pillowcases (match son's bedding) for £1 each

I'm sure there was other stuff - lovely husband kept trudging back to the car with my goodies to save me carrying them around :)

they are rods that you attach to the first ring of the curtain on a pole & you pull that instead of getting grubby mitts on the curtain & that closes/opens the curtains by drawing them along the pole :D

Sounds like they could be from Sound of Music - knickers to go with suits made from curtains :D

    *** not saying you've got grubby mitts - I have :D ***

aah, proper name is 'drapery pull rod', apparently.

Oh I see :T. I was visualising some sort of little handles that you attach to the edge of the curtains, and thinking that would look a bit odd! :rotfl:

I have every possession I want. I have a lot of friends who have a lot more possessions. But in some cases I feel the possessions possess them, rather than the other way round

Someone asked earlier about finding out where charity shops are located.

This is dead useful if you're ever in a new area and want to look for some bargains http://www.charityretail.org.uk/locator.php :j
  • Dead chuffed with my charity shop haul today - even discovered a new one! Got a Next 3/4 black mac, Damart jim jams and a long sleeved lightweight jumper for £12 (upmarket charity shop!) then found a new Salvation army one I didnt know about....got Next wool trousers (1/2 lined) for £2, a Cotton traders top for £1 and a bargain Monsoon top for £1!!!. The jumper, trousers and coat make a great outfit for a tenner! Ebay is getting ridiculous with the price of postage nowadays which is making charity shopping a much better option...
