  • 2) My au pair/carer does not have to do anything to care for me other than actual be present in the house. Technically, she is working, but not because she would only have to do something in an emergency. I originally employed her for childcare purposes, but it'd be silly to employ a second person when the first person can do both jobs considering how undemanding the carer role is.

How much does she get paid for these extra hours?

    4) My au pair hardly has a demnding schedule, 8 hours on a Monday, 4 hours on a Wednesday and 8 on Thursday = 20 hours per week with my son, plus as a carer which as already discussed doesn't require any physical input other than just being in the house. She knows she can go out after DS is in bed (9pm ish)

So she get paid £50 for these 20 hours as is in tune with what an au pair would earn, fair enough, but you then expect her to work on until 9.00 (3/4 hours) every evening and weekend for nothing?

    8) My au pair is a nice girl, and she tries hard and works hard, too right she does!

All the money I get in disability, is less than Income Support/Housing Benefit/Council Tax Benefit Id get if I sat at home with my son. Instead I pay my own mortgage over £400 a month (would otherwise be HB/Gov money) and £100 a week Income Support, plus £100 month C/Tax = approx £900 a month in benefits. I get around £600 a month Disability money, thus the Tax Payer is clearly better off.

You forgot all the money you claim as a single student along with a grant you manged to claim.

It is the same person... and this is her second property (according to previous posts) and shes only 21...she knows how to get the funds..she self certified to get the mortgage! When she first joined MSE she also posted how easy it is to cheat the system ...it was deleted but some of us have long memories!!! This girl is no idiot - lets face it ..she does only need to work 16 hours ...on top she gets DLA ..tax credits plus disability premium... an au pair ....her college fees paid...nursery paid ...she could afford not to work and still pay the mortgage, but then she would lose the tax credits!! When she lets her guard down, thats when she tells the truth, and its here for all to see if you look hard enough. I would take it with a pinch of salt ..but it is already leaving a very nasty taste in my mouth! The travesty is ...she gets it all because she has a child - and she doesn`t even want or enjoy spending time with him_pale_
I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes ;)
  • It is the poor lad I feel sorry for, he probably feels like a spare part, I hope he has as less patience with her when she is older and needing nursing care... People like the OP make me feel sick, and I hope that someone "in power" can witness this thread

As more ambulance paramedics are trained to 'stay and play' before taking someone to hospital as an emergency it may well be that people doing pretend faints in public places will be assessed as not in need of emergency treatment, particularly when their medical history is available to the paramedics on the spot. However, someone who has an emergency ambulance called unecessarily is a cheat, thief and liar and may well contribute to the death of an adult or child in need.

As the au pair is from a non EU country her visa may allow her to work only as an au pair. The going rate for an au pair is 25 hours for £60 with more hours doing au pair tasks only and more pay by negotiation. Any idle google will throw up many agencies guidance on au pairs and a familys rights and responsibilities. If the OP used an agency her original question would be unecessary. Clearly one was not used.

Direct Payments are still in their infancy and are monitored, assessed and reviewed endlessly to ensure everything is correct, targets are being met and to prevent fraud - something government is very aware of with Direct Payments. All may not be simple and straightforward. The OP appears to be intelligent and resourceful and consequently will beaware of all the ins and outs of Direct Payments.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
  • As already mentioned, I do everything I'm "supposed" to do as a parent. I read, I play, I go swimming/ice-skating, I cook a home made dinner every night,

Not bad for someone claiming to be disabled.I can't walk far without pain,I mess myself frequently which is very embarassing,I sometimes cannot hold a saucepan due to arthritis in my fingers, but hey,I DON'T get DLA,I am not entitled to it,this thread has got me boiling up inside,I can't even afford my prescriptions to keep alive, yet people like this are bleeding the system dry with 'false illnesses'
My husband works around 70hrs a week to keep us afloat,we get NO benefits, but you ONLY work 16,oh poor you,you must far too exhausted to even think about your son.
Sorry for this nasty post,I really am wound up by the OP's comments and blaze attitude.

  • I can't believe what I have just read. It sounds to me as you are using your child as a gravy train to an easy life, you do things with him because you have to not because you want to. Maybe he'd be better off living with Dad or the in-laws, but no that would stop all you sponging off the state.
