So, the shadow on the roof from the chimney - is that robbing me of afternoon generation and might be worth looking at optimisers, or is it nothing to worry about?

Oh, and what to do about the flying rats?! I don't want to kill them (ok, I do!), but would an airsoft gun (onbviously non-lethal) be an acceptable teaching tool to encourage them to poo elsewhere?!

Thanks again to all! And my first 5 O :)

Here's my shading at just gone half 3 on 8th March:

After my panels were installed, you can see they take up most of the roof and would clearly be affected by the shading:

Here's my generation curve from yesterday.
    Nice and smooth... http://pvoutput.org/intraday.jsp?sid=28021&dt=20140415

A couple of cracking days has seen:

    Sunday 13th: 5.6 O's
    Monday 14th: 5.4 O's
    Tuesday 15th: 6.12 O's

Also smashed passed the 2MWh mark recently, reaching the annual estimated generation of 2146kWh over a month early (system commissioned 17th May 2013).

Also, now I've got to grips with my Wattson solar plus, I've been thinking about launching an alternative to O's - I propose the Mac-index, defined as the % of total generation used (i.e. not exported) over a calendar month. Anything over 80% is a 'Big Mac', obviously :)

I'll kick off: my Mac-index for the period 21st March -16th April is 68.1%.
My PV system: South West England, 10x 250Wp Trina Solar panels, Fronius Inverter, South facing roof, 35° pitch with no shading.

Theboylard, are you pretty much exactly east south eastern facing?

Looks similar to my shading from a chimney. You can see my output, with optimisers, a page back, a much smoother curve...

    Yes, about 130° from north.
I did question the installers when they came round to survey, as they came at 3pm ish so they will have seen the shadow then, I was told it shouldn't affect things....

I've fired an email at our installers, with a link to this thread and a photo of the Geo monitor next to the clock on the microwave - at 15.18 we're generating 0.77 kw in blazing sunshine :(
The solarimmersion mk3 is sat there doing diddly as not enough generation to divert.

So, oh collected generating ones, which would be best? Optimizers or micro inverters?
We're all paid up and I wouldn't expect any further work to be done for free, but I need to ensure we're not losing nearly half a day's generation. Obviously, mi is the best choice but then I'm left with a hefty refit bill and a surplus inverter?
4kWp, SSE, SolarEdge P300 optimisers & SE3500 Inverter, in occasionally sunny Corby, Northants.
Now with added Sunsynk 5kw hybrid ecco inverter & 15kWh Fogstar batteries. Oh Octopus Energy too.

You'd need a new inverter with power optimisers too, but I strongly recommend them!

Very pleased with mine. I have shade now, I'm south east facing and still generating 1.36kw right now

Big Mac for me then 2 - 3 April :rotfl: Only did 3.28 O's over the two days.....smiley-laughing021.gif I'll do the Mac at the month end starting April....;)

Definition of 'O's = kWh/kWp (kWh = your daily & accurate Generation figure) (kWp = the rated output of your PV Panels).

oi! it is "% of total generation used (i.e. not exported) over a calendar month" for a reason! no cherry-picking cloudy weekends here! :rotfl:

That being said, it's my index, so I reserve the right to arbitrarily change the threshold for a Big Mac to suit the season (or my mood) ;)

Hiya TBL, what inverter do you have, and how is it set up? By any chance do you have 2 strings, possibly LHS panels and RHS panels to minimise the effect? The SMA's have good shade management so might help already if you have one, or may need to be set up slightly different by the installer.

My ESE looks very similar with the chimney to the SSW of the panels. Only one string, and the panels go right up to the chimney. It certainly doesn't help, but my annual generation is about on target, so the effect might be smaller than I'd expected it to be.
