You last line says all anyone needs to know about the value of your 'contribution'.

I am surprised that you lack a sense of humour.

Frankly I do not like the way you attack the trades on this forum.

Then you should take reading lessons. I am usually the first to recommend taking the advice of a chimney sweep. They usually know what they are talking about.

I had noticed the words 'Hetas cabel' on one or more post/s by A. Badger.

No, I spelled it 'cabal'. and I meant it.

What's amusing is that 'rustyboy', whom you two seem so anxious to champion, appeared to agree with me about HETAS.

To save you the trouble., here is what he actually wrote:

"I do agree with you with most of this post.

Hetas is essentially a money making business, They do not really have the 'Cahoona's' to act as they should do and protect consumers from dangerous practices by bad installers. Same goes for Gas safe really. Both charge a fortune to get registered and then, do not really back up installers or conumers when they should do."

So just what is your problem with me calling it a cabal?
  • Get stuck in badger they are a cabal. !!!!ing 3k to install something that costs no more than a 10th of the price, to a guy who failed his GSCES but makes more than most graduates, !!!! right off.

I don't need to take reading lessons as your cynical comments are throughout the forum, including in this thread. But yes, you do idolise sweeps, as confirmed by your posts over the past few years. Good old sweeps eh! You have never posted a bad word about the saintly sweep. And as you say:

"Yes, I would certainly ask your sweep. These chaps have usually seen more fires and stoves than you can shake a stick at and a good sweep can be a mine of information."

Gawd bless 'em, aren't they amazing. But installers and sellers of stoves are scumbags. And as for HETAS, well, Beelzebub could learn a thing or two from them. Forgive my sarcasm, but you do seem to have a black and white view, sweeps = saints, installers = the devil.

By the way, I also read through your arguments with crphillips and hethmar.

    But as you say:

"As I've said here before, I think the stove business has become a bit of a racket, driven by people's mistaken belief that they can get virtually free heating if they buy a stove. This buoyant market has sucked-in a lot of importers of dodgy stoves, lazy retailers who won't compete either on price or service, attempts to rig the market against online discounting retailers, mythologising installers and heaven knows what beside."

I do not recognise that, though perhaps you have a talent for finding scoundrels. The shop I dealt with had loads of friendly staff. I chatted with several staff over 6 months (many visits) who gave me very good information about fireplaces, such as how to open out the builder's opening. I visited shops in the Surrey, Hants borders, not so far from you. I did find one shop in Basingstoke that sold surrounds and hearths, and the two women assistants were clueless, but they did not BS me. Sorry your description of rogues and scoundrels bears no relation to mine. Do other people recognise that? Is A. Badger's experience commonplace?

    And another quote:

"Over all, I'm extremely impressed with the Hunter and consider it excellent value for money. On balance, I suspect the Charnwood may be better built, but (so far - touch wood) the 'experts' in a couple of local stove specialists who told me Hunters were rubbish (one even claimed they were made in Bulgaria!), have been proved what I suspected all along - shifty shopkeepers, lying about a cheaper product, in the hope of selling one that made them more profit!"

Well there you are, a cast iron case (sic) proving that the 'experts' are scoundrels. One stove works well, so that proves that the shop keepers are a bunch of liars. Case closed. Or maybe not. Do you know anything about quality control? Your experience proves nowt, zilch, nada, nothing. With such faulty reasoning it is hard to take what you say seriously, except to conclude that you are very opinionated and quick to carp (sic) on some people. To get any kind of assessment you have to have a large enough sample. A sample of one is useless. Installers sample hundreds of stoves, or more, and hence they have a feel for which are good, and which not.

You really are stuck on one note, aren't you?

Nothing you've managed to exhume contradicts a single word I've written. It does show an interesting obsessiveness on your part, though.

My experience of sweeps? Pretty good, I must say. Yes, good for sweeps. No vested interests, you see.

Of stove retailers? Pretty poor (Clue: telling me a brand of stoves is made in Bulgaria when it isn't is called lying. Citing it as an example of fault on my part simply makes you look ridiculous).

Still, I'll bear in mind that our newly arrived, newly self-appointed censor prefers us not to share our experiences here.

No... actually I'm joking. Probably best to spell it out.

That is rather hypocritical on your part don't you think, given that you jump on installers and related trades and accuse them of deceit etc, as you did earlier in this thread. I prefer not to automatically assume someone is a rogue. I also listen to people who have extensive experience, rather than self proclaimed experts who think that ones status is proportional to duration and number of posts in this forum.

I spent today chopping down a Buddleia, and chipping the smaller branches for the compost heap. I suspect the larger logs will burn rather rapidly once seasoned. Still, plants like Buddliea and Rhododendron are best burnt/composted in my view.

    Anyway, have a nice day.
