  • Thanks for your replies, at least I know where I stand now. The adviser I got through to was obviously useless because he didn't tell me any of that, even when I was asking about going onto FreeSat! He was probably new!
  • the sky plus and hd box's have a hardisk drive like what in your computer.

if your really want to cancel but retain your films open the sky box dteach the sataII and HDdrive and plug it into the motherbourd in your pc (if you have sata ports) boot up and transfur you films to a folder and the harddrive, some will say you cant play them a windows media player dont recognise the format and thats true but VLC media plays all formats and free to download. when your ready you can then plug it back into the sky box, and cancel the subscription

I just haggled with them. Explained i needed to make cut backs and sky is top of list. Acted numb and asked things like "if i cancel will it cost me anything" and "do i need to put it in writing?" The second woman was very helpful. First she said she would give me my multi-rooms and HD half price each. I said na, would just be easier to buy a new HD freesat thing. Requested to carry on to cancel. Then she said " how about we do what you have now for £30pm?" Would that help you financially?? (Was paying 80 odd mind!!) I snatched her hand off lol xxx I have tried 2 times in the past and got nowhere. I was just being dam cheeky, had no intention of cancelling!!! I dont get out much and love my sky xxxx

I am always struck by the hypocrisy between the (thoroughly justified) anger on MSE of those who have been lied to or had their money stolen by Sky and the glee with which others boast of how they have lied to Sky to obtain financial benefit by deception.

Was being cheeky and it worked x Never had the nerve to haggle for anything before but since i got ill i decided life is too short xx

  • Funny how my phone call was very similar, but got a completely different response! Just out of interest, are you in a cable area? Do you think I would get somewhere if I called back and said I'd decided to cancel after all?
  • And what number did you ring?

My mum only watches the free to air channels - but pays for Sky. I've tried explaining that the free channels stay if she cancels - but she does not believe me - even though mines been cancelled five years.

Just finished on the phone with sky. I've had the bear minimum package for about the last 2 years £20 a month or something like that.

I wanted to uprade to Sports, HD and multiroom - just in time for the F1 season starting... ;-)

Deal I got (after a long time on the phone) was :

25% off entertainment & sports package for 12 months.
50% off multiroom subscription for 12 months
50% off HD subscriptions for 12 months

+ £5 for a Sky+ HD box for the multiroom
    + free installation charge

Works out at roughly £40 a month.

Not the best deal I've seen reported on the forums, but most people that get the good deals have the big packages to begin with, so as I was starting from minimum, I'm quite chuffed!

My advise is to go in there with an idea of what you want to get out of the negotiations. Be realistic, but don't accept their first offer.

Don't make a big song and dance about cancelling, just be calm and remember what you're looking for.

    Good luck!
