Just rang sky with the old "need to cancel" line. At first they tried to reduce packages ( i have the lot, bar sports, HD, Multiroom +2). (i dont go out, love tv lol). I was willing to lose HD, and they offered 25%discount as well. Said we'd ring back. Rang back 5 mins after, got someone different who gave me what i already have for £30 a month!! Over half price saving!!! For a year!! After a year need to ring back to re-negotiate. Jolly good, happy days!
Just posting to let others know sky are feeling generous today!!! xxx

The are two times of the year when sales drop off for Sky ect,Jan/Feb & Aug/Sept. (I have seen this first hand working for Sky & VM/NTL)
Simple reason is it's around this time of the year that the credit card bills from Christmas & Summer holidays comes due, people are skint so subscriptions to these 'luxuries' like Sky TV drop off...One pay day, because of the shortage of work & cancellations, I came out with £680 for a month of six day weeks in January, installing for Sky instead of the normal £1000...0 -
What phone number did you ring? I have just got off the phone to them, having had a very similar conversation and was offered absolutely nothing. I am out of contract paying £72.50 per month, and unfortunately I am not in a cable area so have no one else to transfer to. The only thing I was offered was to reduce my package, so I took movies off, but made it clear that I was still thinking of cancelling and would get back to them.
Do you have cable in your area? Is it the case that they know that I have no other options available to me?
I feel like cancelling the whole thing, and sending my husband to the pub to watch football!:(
If I go ahead and tell them I want to cancel, do you think they will come back begging in the 31 days notice period? If I do cancel can I change my mind if they don't come back begging?

I rang and cancelled at the weekend due to both sky boxes in the house deciding to pack up within a few days of each other, wasn't offered anything at the time do you think giving them another call would be worth it?0

Have Sky coming out this evening to install a free HD box with full TV package, HD, Sports + Movies for £30 a month for a year.
Getting a half price offers is simple, you just need to hold your nerve (and be fine going with free channels for a couple of weeks!) Call and cancel, if they don't offer you anything you can try your luck with someone else or just go ahead with the cancel. Eventually you will get a call from the 'win back team' or a leaflet through your door offering a half price deal to come back to them. It can just take a few weeks after services have been cut.
Failing that you can often find some lovely Sky employees on these forums on the Sky referrals thread offering half price deals to people.0 -
If I go ahead and cancel do you know what happens to programmes that I already have on the box? (daughter has lots of Disney films on there!) I also assume that it all functions as before - fast forwarding etc?0

If you cancel all the programmes should remain on the box however you wont be able to watch any of them as the Sky+ features are switched off unless you pay Sky £10 a month for them.0 -
and will I retain the ability to fast foward and record etc without paying them £10 per month?0

No,all recording,fast forward,play functions will be disabled.The box will be,in effect,a bog standard Sky box pre Sky+ era0 -

Bear in mind, also, that although the recordings remain stored on the hard drive of your box, you will only be able to access those you recorded on subscription channels if you remain subscribed (or if you re-subscribe) to the channels from which you recorded them.
What may not have occurred to you is that if (as you have indicated) you have now cancelled the movie channels but have retained the rest of your package, you’ll find that everything else will continue to work normally but that very soon (if not already) you are denied access to all the recordings you made on the movie channels you have just cancelled…
In other words, if your daughter wants to watch Disney films she has recorded on a subscription channel that you’ve cancelled, you’ll need to re-subscribe to it.
(You are not, incidentally, “out of contract” with Sky. What has expired is the Minimum Period for which you agreed to subscribe. You remain “in contract” with Sky until your joint contract is cancelled and terminated – either by you or by Sky.)Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance
