People don't want black and white kittens.

I took so donations along to our local cat charity's shop the other week and was chatting to the founder about how manic kitten season has been this year. She told me that they still had about 15 kittens waiting to be homed, all black and white or white and black and they were so old they were ready to be neutered/spayed and almost too old to be called kittens. There's nothing wrong with these kittens, but people are turning up at the rescue centre expecting to take home pedigree tabbies / gingers or blooming maine coons!

What is wrong with these people???? Firstly, you don't go to a rescue centre expecting a pedigree do you? And secondly, how can anyone resist and cute little black and white kitten?? I have two at the moment one black and white male and a white and black female and they are so beautiful, and such loving cats. Both came from this local cat charity.

Why do people go to a cat rescue when they are so picky? It makes me so sad to think of all those lovely kittens wanting a home. I daren't go to their rescue centre because I'd bring them all home!! :rotfl:

My Frankie is black and white and I think he is the most handsome cat ever

I do like tabbies but when I was looking for a cat/kitten I wasn't fussy. A friend of a friend had two who were 14 weeks and had been brought back by the person who took them, I took both. Girl was so kind she didn't want any payment just reassurance that they would get a good home ( she didn't need to home check really as her friend is my friend) so I took the two kitties home, the other is all black and lives with my brother, his fiance and their two month old son.

I wasn't fussy when I adopted my furbabies. Mine are completely black and are gorgeous. Mind you, they would be gorgeous regardless of colour because it is their personalities that we love. Some people are just so fickle!

I've heard this before and I don't understand it. My first cat Spook was black, and Jimmy is white & black. I do have a tabby as well, but I don't really have any preference as I love all cats.

    Oh what a gorgeous kitty!

A friend of my mum's wanted 2 cats. My mum helps at the local CPL and suggested she go there to look at the cats. Mum's friend eventually bought 2 pedigree kittens as the ones she saw at the rescue centre "weren't pretty enough" apparently. Made mine and my mum's blood boil.

I've got 2 rescues - both torties and sisters from the same litter. I love all colours; I was brought up with a ginger tom and a tabby and white and then a one eyed black cat - all were rescues. I wasn't fussy about the cats I got as I just wanted to give a couple of cats a good home. I went to my local cat shelter and fell in love with the tortie kitties; in fact I fell in love with every cat there but the torties really took to me too so I guess they chose me. 10 years on, they're still happy and healthy and still very much loved.

This is what I mean! I've always had a particular love of 'tuxedo' cats, but Bert wasn't chosen because he was one, but because he was so friendly and affectionate at the rescue.

I suspect these people want 'designer' cats for the breed, rather than just for the love of a cat's company. But really, they just don't know what they are missing!

Oh and I agree con1888 Frankie is a very handsome boy :)
I must figure out how to post pictures...

My cat who lives with my parents has very similar markings to Frankie, her name is Molly and she's 10 now. She's really fat these days cos she is lazy.

Just to clarify, a tabby or ginger isn't necessarily a pedigree, it is the breed that determines that, not the colour ;)

But this has been a problem for some time, unfortunately, and I don't understand it either! Cats Protection had a black cat awareness day recently to raise awareness of the issue.

I have five cats, three of whom are rescue moggies - one tabby, one ginger tabby, and one black & white; as well as two pedigree Bengals. I just love all cats, no matter what their colour or breed :)

I took that one from my facebook, right click, view image info and then copy the image properties. On here click the little box that looks like a mountain and paste the image properties in ;)

If you don't have any pic already online you will have to upload one to facebook or a picture hosting site x

Frankie looks like my boy Booty who sadly passed away last year, I agree he is gorgeous :)

My 2 are both black and white, both rescues. I love all cats but I seem to acquire black and white the most often. I always think it's sad that people won't get them from rescue centres because they're the wrong colour :( I'd rather know that I was giving a cat in need a forever, loving home than have a specific breed or colour.

Plus as already said, it's the personality that counts :) although one of mine is the devil in feline form, she does make me laugh!

Frankie is also a devil. He is a right little character though, my partner wasn't fond on cats atall and he loves him now. He said today after dinner that just a few months ago he would have been horrified at the thought of letting a cat eat leftovers from his plate yet today Frankie ate his leftover chicken then licked all the gravy and partner didn't bat an eyelid.

Partner is nightshift and was off last night but still up all night, he said when Frankie heard my alarm go off for work this morning he jumped up all excited and bolted upstairs, he does this every day bolts in from wherever he is and climbs purring all over my face til I wake up.

Only problem is, tomorrow is my day off, I sometimes forget to turn alarm off and he does NOT let me snooze :(:(:(
