BEWARE - PS3 crippled in Euro launch

  • Better still find a very reputable dealer abroad in USA or Japan and buy one off them. Apparently it works out cheaper and you get all the functionality - the PS3 isnt region locked and works on a normal kettle lead from 110v through to 240v and you just go to menu at set up and enter language as english.

I suspect that the changes are more about the fact that people in the other countries have found a cheaper way of gaming using other operating systems maybe and this hardware change could slow this process down.

Im only guessing as this was the pattern with the earlier consoles - we got the consoles after all the flaws where found by the Japanese/American beta testers so to speak.

Anyway I kind of agree with some of the above posts - how long did we really play the old PS1 games in our Ps2 machines - not very long in our house as the newer games had far more attraction.

Lets get on with the next generation and talk about the old games with affection - "Now what where the best games ever" always a conversation starter late at night when everyone else has hit the sack and your setting up the console for the insomiac party people - Erm...... Arkaniod...... Erm.........Final Fantasy 7...........Gran turismo.........Burnout 2...........

    On with the show.
Aint got a signature - as I cant think of anything world wisely to say.

Rediculous. My son will not be getting a PS3. I had already decided that when I saw that price. Shocking and how can they justify asking us to pay that much. Now that I read about the backward compatibility thing there is no way I would buy one even if they brought the price down to the £150.00

As someone on here said why would you want to keep 2 games consoles in order to play all your games. I already have enought of that stuff littering up my house.

My children do still play their ps1 games on their ps2's maily because there are some games that they loved to play.

Nintendo even created a sepereate game slot on their DS so that some previous games could be played and the Wii can play Gamebcube games excellent.

No it will be a Wii that my son will get next or a Xbox. Sony have done themselves no favours at all.
Its better to be late in this life than early in the next one.

    Slow down speed kills.
  • Perhaps I'm just a miser but I always buy the "old" games console. Last year I bought myself an Xbox for the bargain price of £79 to replace my original playstation.

The release of newer models does wonders for the retail price of the old model and makes the whole experience much more reasonable. After all, it's a toy. Just something to amuse me when I have some free time. So I just couldn't bring myself to buy a new console at £300 or so.

Plus you can buy 4 Xbox games for £20 in "gamestation" etc.

Still got £30 for my old playstation as well so I think I can live with a £50 console upgrade every 2 years or so.

Is this really such a genuine big issue for people, or is everyone just jumping on the Sony Hatewagon?

I have no intention of paying £425 for a console no matter how good it is, and I think Sony has been arrogant beyond belief recently, but if I was going to buy a PS3, I wouldn't really be that bothered about this latest announcement.

I think the best way is the get a japanese/american version from elsewhere.
  • my 360 doesn't like old xbox games but then I just use my xbox for them. I wouldn't pay £425 for a console anyway.
Nothing to see here, move along.
  • This site is doing them for £429.98 delivered and its the Jap spec.
