BEWARE - PS3 crippled in Euro launch

Sony released a statement today stating that the final Euro-spec for the PS3 will NOT be fully backward compatible with PS2 titles like the US and JAP versions are. In order to cut costs they've removed the Emotion Engine and Graphics Synthesiser chips (PS2 chips) in the Euro model. The fact that they won't say how many titles are compatible (via software) until launch suggests it's going to be nowhere near the 98% our US and Japanese cousins have.
This news comes weeks after a pre-order campaign and does not come with any price cuts so in effect we're subsidising cheaper US and Japanese consoles with better specifications.
I've cancelled my pre-order, I strongly urge others to do so to send a message to Sony that this simply is the last straw (launch delay, more expensive than US/JAP and even EURO prices, less functionality).

Once Microsoft got involved in the console market, the writing was on the wall for even such a massive corporation as Sony. Having said that, I think their almost inevitable demise is more to do with their own incredible arrogance than anything Microsoft has done.0
